  • Hard News: Still not all that Super?,

    Not to forget "Paraparam"

Someone of an older generation used that around me the other day, and I was all 'whut?' I suppose we can be glad that I'd never heard it before...

  • Radiation: Lost on Internet Island,

And are you disparaging 'The Good Life'?

There shall be no insults to Penelope Keith on my watch.

For the record, it was Bob Newhart, and they were in bed.

Speaking of things that have held up well...

  • Hard News: Music's emerging digital market,

    +1 for Lady Gaga.

I just want to look at her outfits and videos. Her music leaves me rather cold - it doesn't seem to have what I need in the way of hooks, or something. Which is a bummer, because I am usually all about big fun pantsless pop songs. Speaking of which:

the large amount of ELO that's recently made its way to my iPod

I am sending you a virtual high five on the ELO-lovin', Robyn. (Jeff Lynne can keep his pants on, though.)

enrolling Rangitoto College students for rallies down Queen Street in jack boots.

Danielle, finally our time in the sun!

At last! I've been waiting for nearly two decades for my miserable four years at that school to pay off. If only I hadn't sold my steel-toed boots in the mid-90s.

Great meaning large or immense! We mean it in the pejorative sense!

Rich, I declare you to be hilarious.

  • Southerly: The Burglar Files,

Holy Christ - what secondary school did you go to - Borstal?!?!

Kelston Boys, wasn't it? I must say, as a transplant from the much-loathed North Shore, I find the Westside generally a lot less horrifying than it is in David's pieces! That school really did a number on you, man...

Back in '81 or so, my parents semi-frequently bought fruit-n-veg at Nola's on the corner (still there)

Wow, Nola's is nearly as old as me! (And has the dubious distinction of being the first place I walked to after having a caesarean. I needed celery.)

  • Radiation: Lost on Internet Island,

Not sure what that means. Seth Bullock always had a stick up his ass

Yeah, that's what I meant. I liked the clenchiness (to coin a word) of the character. It was often hilarious. And... sort of hot? Although I don't imagine I would find it so in real life.

Sacha, I never watched Brothers and Sisters because I saw Rachel Griffiths and went 'ACK!' Brenda clearly did a number on me.

sketch comedy is really hard to do well

See also: Saturday Night Live. So much chaff, not nearly enough wheat. Why can't everything be 'Dick in a Box'?

  • Southerly: The Burglar Files,

I ask, in the interest of historical accuracy, if there was actually a light at the intersection of Parrs Cross and West Coast Roads in 1986? Because now it's a rather fetching roundabout. With flowers. I walked blithely across that intersection today, as a matter of fact, but I'm now seeing it in a whole new light...

  • Radiation: Lost on Internet Island,

the astonishing attractiveness of Timothy Olyphant

Is he still just as... clenchy?

Alan Ball's last show, Six Feet Under, impossible to watch by the start of the third season

I've always wondered: were we *meant* to hate all those characters? Because oh boy, did I hate them all. Particularly Brenda.

On the other hand, TV2 doubled up on American Idol this weekend, so the final will run only 4 days behind the US.

I'm half-heartedly supporting Bowersox: I proclaim her to be the least offensive.

  • Up Front: Feeling Like Death,

    Belatedly: Emma, you magnificent badass!

I am pro-cemetery. One of my favourites contains the remains of a few relatives and is here. Windy and gorgeous (if the sun's out).
