  • Hard News: Media7 will soon be Media3, in reply to Hilary Stace,

That’s great news but can I make a suggestion? Please can you have some more girls on your panel? What about bringing some local women from your audience onto the stage

Can I ask why? It seems to me that Russ has a pretty balanced gender split and considering we have to pull our experts from a small pool insisting on a particular gender would be counter-productive.

As for having Sofie and Jackie on the panel, sheesh, it's only a half hour show.
    ;-)

  • Hard News: Friday Music: The Jazz,

personally I'm not too keen on Jazz, any performance that has applause after every painfully long solo smacks of pretentious puffery to me and the make-up leaves a bad taste.

    In other Musick news…
Bon Jovi: Steve Jobs Killed the Music Industry

Apple CEO Steve Jobs is to blame for “killing” the music industry, rocker Jon Bon Jovi recently told the U.K.’s Sunday Times Magazine.

“Kids today have missed the whole experience of putting the headphones on, turning it up to 10, holding the jacket, closing their eyes and getting lost in an album; and the beauty of taking your allowance money and making a decision based on the jacket, not knowing what the record sounded like, and looking at a couple of pictures and still imagining it,” he said.

Talk about Livin’ on a Prayer, “not knowing what the record sounded like” yeah, just buy it shmuk.
    Best comment on the article…

This is like saying Henry Ford “killed” the transportation industry. “Kids today have missed the whole experience of getting up at 4 AM to feed and care for the horses, closing their eyes and getting lost in the smell of the barn; and the beauty of petting and playing with the horses, not knowing whether the horse would kick them in the nuts, or bite their finger off."

Yeah, thanks Ana Samways. This nickin’ stuff of the net is easy, eh?.

  • Capture: Mama Don't Take My Lytro Camera…,

When I first glanced at this I thought, you can focus on any part, infinite zoom? but alas no. Now that would be a game changer, you go and take a snapshot and then look at the finest of details. Like looking at google earth.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: This stuff works, in reply to Clorpet Codtail,

The rankings on the show bore no resemblance to what was actually on the charts.

“The Charts”? There are several lists of popular music. BFM Top Ten, Cheese on Toast Essential Ten, Kiwi FM Top Ten to name but three. Then there is the “Official NZ Top Ten” issued by RIANZ and now we have a new model, The Audience, given to us with the help of NZ on Air. The Audience was launched on the 31 May this year and relies on feedback from site visitors and seems to list only unreleased material so I can’t see how it even could mirror the commercial charts.

Give it a while to settle and gain some market and it may well turn out to be a more accurate self selecting measure of subjective popularity than some of the others. Personally I don’t feel the need to be told what to like but that’s just me.
