And all because I chose to retain my own cultural practices in the workplace.

There should be a treaty claim over the right to swear in the workplace. Currently we're mostly just doing it under our breath, so we're being repressed.

Your posts make much more sense now that I know you're not talking about the Christchurch City Council!

Scoundrels looks... weird. The light or something - everything looks fake.

Outrageous Fortune without Robyn Malcolm or Antony Starr. Van's strength isn't his stupidity, it's his all-encompassing emotion - post Aurora, post-Sheree. Hope they don't just play it as just a dumb character for laughs.

So, $350,000 for an artwork celebrating sport? It is about art v sport. But it's not art or sport that started the argument, is it, publicly elected officials?

If it really is about a statue vs a carnival, then I suspect it's about art vs art (ignoring an earlier thread).

There's lots of artworks on the road out to Wellington airport which are a tribute to Wellington weather, particularly wind. We would say that's money spent on art, not money on meteorology.

I do wonder in this case if it's just provided convenient imagery for tv news to put in the background while they cover day 41 of the story, rather than a live cross to... some place 50 miles away from the leak.

They still do some live crosses of course.

Jeepers. Could they not just hand it to the pilot?

I hear they're all alcoholics these days. Can't trust them with anything important.

  • Hard News: The Future of the Future,

The oil spill cam effectively adds another television channel dedicated to just watching the oil flow. More information, yay. But information isn't knowledge, and the problem is still how to create a media ecology where we can acquire and exchange and create more knowledge.

Does more 'data' (if we can call imagery of oil spewing out that) cause less context/knowledge? Are there being resources being diverted from elsewhere to show these images or are they just additional?

Also hoping we're going to be seeing sooner rather than later the next production from the people who brought you Mad Men and Breaking Bad:

Filming just begun of the pilot I think. Be nice to see it well done, anything inspired by George Romero is on my to see list.

Seeing as Ben could survive in the cold for as long as it took to turn the wheel, it doesn't seem like much of a problem for, say, horses wearing coats.

I don't buy any argument that says animals were supposed to turn the wheel. Half the wheel was stuck through the wall. Animals tend to turn wheels where they can constantly walk forward around the wheel for long periods of time. Training an animal to turn the wheel a bit, then go back to the other side, then turn it a bit, then go back to the other side?

Well, I don't imagine they were all staying in 5 star resorts, but no, it wouldn't have been cheap.

When filming they hand-delivered daily rushes overnight to Los Angeles. That's one guy whose job is to travel daily between LA and Hawai'i, with daily return plane tickets on top.

It even tweets me. And it allowed me to tell everyone I met on Tuesday that we'd just had 2% of the rainfall for the year to date in 10 minutes.

Russell, you have family and friends that love you and can help you with these issues. You need to admit that you have a problem as the first step.

I suspect you could say that of a thousand other iphone apps Giovanni, and umpteen other things. Personally I've never understood apps that tell you what the weather is where you currently are. For people without windows apparently.
