Ha, I was Peaseblossom in Dream!

Sorry, it should be Pease and not Peach, even though she really likes Peaches!

Kewl -- sounds a lot like a really beautiful production of Britten's opera

They do have a very inventive drama teacher (Margi Wynne-Jones). The last production was Hamlet, set in a emerging fascist state.

  • Hard News: Upcoming!,

If you are down Waikato way, the annual Spark :International Festival of Media, Arts & Design is on 9-13 August. Guests include artist & photographer Mary Mattingly, singer & songwritewr Vince Harder, journalist Greer McDonald, artist Michael Harrison, KHF Media, Belgrade animator Rastko Ciric--and Paul Holmes! I am doing a pecha kucha thing on Tuesday eve. www.spark.net.nz It all leads into the Hamilton leg of the Film Festival (Aug 12-29) in the sumptuous new Lido. So if you missed any films in Auckland or Wellington ...!

Hamilton Girls/Hamilton Boys High are putting on a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream Aug 7-14. You all should go (not just because my daughter has a role as Peachblossom!) but because it shifts the action, in an interesting way, to the days of the British Raj.

So, it is going to be a busy week...but enough of the sales pitch!

  • Hard News: Ideology for Evidence,

Coincidentally, the NZH (A8) yesterday featured an article, "Go back to work, mum--it's OK, study says", citing a new US study from Columbia University School of Social Work which argues that the net effect of child care and new mothers going into the workforce was 'neutral'. But Aric obviously doesn't read anything which might undermine his biased view of the world .

  • Hard News: Ideology for Evidence,

Good one, Ian! At least they weren't supplementary condoms. Has anyone ever done a study of the correlation between right wing views and poor spelling?

  • Hard News: Ideology for Evidence,

Whist we are on about ideology, the 'orrible Ari Sigman is in town --berating us on Nine To Noon this morning (at least I got in a parting shot!). I just wish someone in the media would question his credentials and personal agenda.

  • Radiation: This Is Not My Dan Carter,

Apparently TINML rated very well. Although interesting to note they lost around a quarter of the audience in the second half...

It would only make sense if we knew what the raw numbers were ie how many bodies in the Peoplemeter panel. Could have been as low as 6 or 7 bodies, who might have decided to have an early night.

  • Speaker: A gloriously bad film,

who is dis David Hayward character?

Grovel, grovel, apology, apology, sack-cloth and ashes, get me my hair-shirt... of course I meant the incomparable, incredible, desirable David Haywood!!

  • Radiation: This Is Not My Dan Carter,

    Misfits is hilarious.

..and the sequence when the tall prat asked the chav girl whether her loss of hair extended to all parts of her body!

I really like the first ep of TINML, especially the sly comments on recycling, carbon credits and community spirit. Beautifully designed too-minimalism has never looked so horrifying!

  • Hard News: Just pretend it's Friday already,

Stephen: thanks for posting the Newport vid. Much appreciated.

If you ever take the Paddington to Cardiff train, you pass through Newport and wonder why!

  • Speaker: A gloriously bad film,

Oi, hang on a minute, mate! There is whimsy aplenty on PAS!! Check out David Hayward for starters.

The problem with watching bad films is that it displaces time you could be spending watching good films.
