  • Hard News: The GCSB Bill: We at least…,

So, John Key is going to get the GCSB to sort out Snapper and stop it failing to register when people get off the bus and charging them $6? Admirable, but free buses would probably be cheaper.

But srsly, I do think there is a largish group in NZ who buy into the bullshit and actually *want* the government to spy on freaks, geeks and wierdos. These people are probably a plurality in drone suburbs like Dunne and Key's electorates, which explains why such people are so relaxed about any opposition.

There's a lotta dodginess around securitah

I don't think it ever gets as bad here as many cities overseas, where security firms are all gang-based, and doormen and clubs get attacked in turf wars (for the lucrative drug dealing mostly).

But I have heard of various scams, such as money being laundered: club manager gets a big bag of money, banks it as takings, pays it out to a security company. That sort of thing...

    Gentleman's Clubs

Places like Whites and the Garrick?

Would explain why they have a penis-owners-only rule. Are they bisexual knocking shops, or are only boys of ill repute on the menu (probably codenamed as "spotted dick" - see attached)?

Algorithms that would be able to tell whether a message:

"bomb warning on somewhere street, don't go down there"

Is a threat, or helpful information (some places get a lot of bomb warnings, like London in the 90's).

But would terminating the abuser's account have any effect - if people are that nasty, won't they just recreate another one, and use an untraceable IP to boot?

If they've done the latter, then even setting the law on them would have little effect - probably encourage them that the police are chasing around the world and can't find them.

You don't need to talk to them

Doesn't the songwriter and their record company/publisher have some sort of opt-out / veto power though?

ISTR Billy Bragg's "Route A13" having been blocked from release by Chuck Berry?

I changed from Visa to Mastercard (yes, I know) because Visa were sponsoring the China games. The Olympics in general are a corrupt circus - even when held in a democracy, they're an excuse to crank up the authoritarianism - remember the "Zil lanes" in London?

  • Cracker: Johnny Foreigner & the Auckland…,

I'm fairly sure I had to produce a passport at some point when buying a house, primarily so the bank could be sure they were dealing with the actual me rather than some impostor.

Anyway, I don't think you actually have to evidence NZ citizenship when purchasing something like a farm that *is* subject to the act. The enforcement requirements are post-facto - one can be fined or forced to sell the property, etc.

You need one of these. Also, the "pwgen" or similar command will make a selection of random but typable passwords for you.

And yes, the entropy key will make pwgen more random, on a suitable system.
