Can we also not spoil my thread? I think you guys already have enough space dedicated to this argument, yes?

Word. I'm thinking of calling for a moratorium on the c-word.

Hey all, thanks for keeping it vigorous but seemly. A lot of posts rocked, but I believe Lucy's rocked most of all.

    Yes, Bruce Sterling is great.

And as epigrammatic as you like. I've just tweeted 17 separate killer lines from his speech.

What kind of fool am I?

  • Hard News: High Noon,

This has been a truly fascinating discussion, thanks to all.

Indeed. And thanks for moving it past the earlier unpleasantness, which I found quite upsetting, possibly because I'm the wall with fatigue and stress at the moment.

Fortunately, my hotel room has a GIANT bathtub, and I'm filling it. The planet can jolly well fry ...

Also: Bruce Sterling is a mind of wonder.

Otherwise I'm closing my eyes, blocking my ears and going LA-LA-LA-LA in the general direction of all you people (and you know who you are, and how damn many you are) who drop various kinds of hints about or offers spoiler-ey snippets of the new series of Flight with the Conchords.

I thought I was very restrained. But, woo: Gondry.

  • Hard News: Play Time,

I know it was only a minor part of the show but I felt a bit short changed by the FOO camp report personally, didn't really tell me much except a few geeks in tents gathered at Warkworth.

I'm sure there's much more to it. Where can I find more ?

We intended to edit up the six interviews and put 'em on the Media7 blog on the TVNZ site -- but it appears that hasn't happened. I think there may have been technical issues .

It would be different if truly innocent people are included, as was (sort of) the case with people who owned iPods before the format shifting laws, or anyone who ever recorded something off TV onto a VHS.

Most of us still break the format-shifting and TV recording rules. Leave something on the MySky after watching it, that kind of thing ...

  • Hard News: High Noon,

A small levy on all internet connections would seem to be a better solution than to criminalise, almost, anybody.

We were lucky enough to get Peter Jenner on Media7 last year. He's a major proponent of what he calls the "music access charge".

  • Hard News: High Noon,

However, it's a fair point for Russ to point out that s92A allows a harsher punishment than a court has handed out for copyright infringement, which I think is what he meant when talking the Hocquard.

Yes that was my point. Obviously the child-porn comparison got misunderstood and was therefore probably unwise, but the point was that not only would a court not hand down such a punishment for copyright infringement, a criminal court almost never would.

Damian, people on the web side of the argument feel very strongly about that point. Sad gits or not, they tend to regard connectivity as the stuff of life.
