Also worthy of mention: Laura Ingraham's 'nazi salute' (realistically, probably just an awkward wave. Probably. Maybe....?)

It just seems like a real lowering of the bar on what’s acceptable.
You forgot to mention that former candidate Ben Carson has attempted to 'two-degrees-of-separation' Hilary Clinton with Lucifer. As best I can make out, because she wrote her thesis on Saul Alinsky, and because Saul Alinsky's book 'rules for radicals' acknowledges Lucifer, that clearly makes her a witch.
Personally, I'd need to weigh her against a duck before I was convinced.

Also "denial and attack" has become the default approach for an awful lot of politicians
Here in the UK, too. Our new unelected PM, when some MPs spoke up against the renewal of Trident in the debate yesterday, had this in response: “Sadly...some members of the Labour party, seem to be the first to defend the country’s enemies”.
And 'it's all Jeremy Corbyn's fault" has become a cheap, cliched punchline very quickly.

Speaker: A Disorderly Brexit, in reply to
The UK's new, unelected PM has appointed Boris the Clown as her new foreign secretary. Talk about distain for the electorate.
There's a theory floating about that she deliberately put him there so that when he inevitably stuffs it up completely she can shuffle him off into obscurity in disgrace. Not sure how much weight I give it, but liike I say, it's being tabled.

For Cheney & Co this was a giant free market experiment which history will judge as a miserable failure.
Well, as you outline in your post, it seems to have succeeded admirably for a few individuals and organisations....

Both have been remarkably effective at making sure that arguments are polarised, positions entrenched and prejudices or suspicions reinforced.
You're going to have to explain to me how Chilcott has caused "positions [to be] entrenched and prejudices or suspicions reinforced" on the pro-war side.
I've seen and heard a lot from the warmongers in the last day or two, desperately squiming and spouting the same old, same old. But now these tinpot emperors can't even pretend to have clothes, and their trenches have been thoroughly over-run.

Except turnout was pretty good
Not exactly how I meant it. Want of understanding of popular opinion on the part of our elected representatives would be closer, but doesn't quite scan so well....
