  • Hard News: Friday Music: Starting Early,

just to post a couple of diversions from all the serious chat...

found this in a Panmure chazza the other day, the cover didn't look particularly promising, but I couldn't leave a version of I Walk the Line for cheap. It starts off on the kinda latin country, but once the redoubtable Hal Blaines' drums and the trebly guitar kick in it almost goes all surf on it. liner notes reckon Johnny Cash is in there someone as well.

then, I heard this piece of awesomeness on a Jazzman Records podcast. must find...

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Backwards and Forwards,

just like to share my good charity shop vinyl fortunes this week - was down in Hamilton and managed a quick trawl.

all these 45s were punts, but at only $1 why wouldn't you?

The Atlantics, Goldfinger - Oz instrumental surf band goes Bond

The Seashells, (The Best Part Of) Breaking Up - was dubious about this one - quaint name and well, the Ronettes - but bloody nora

Sid Ramin, Stiletto - title track to spy film of the same name with big drums, hooky keyboards and horns

Jeff Beck with Rod Stewart, Morning Dew - widely covered but this stands up nicely. plus: wah wah

    some facemelting soul...

and even a funky nod to the baby jeebus...

do come and say gidday, I'm the one not wearing a hat.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Whine Festival,

yeah, it was a brilliant night.

the ever lovely Mr Baker even snared me a signed copy of the Faithful Man 7. we're tagteaming at Golden Dawn for the BDO aftermatch so I reckon it's likely to get a spin.

just wish Charles Bradley was playing here as well. oh well.

just rumbled this piece of greatness from The Beat Club - they reckon it's the Walker Brothers, but I'm wondering if it's a rare Scott Walker duet with a very early doors Napoleon Dynamite.

Leggy Mountbatten would have loved the trousers.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Lorde's Mixtape,

that new stuff is all well and good, but I scored this this morning...and it's pretty sweet.

oh, and now I see why Lorde was too busy to answer all my questions, hurumph.

    also: RIP Lewis Collins.

he inspired a great many forward rolls and a longterm yearning for a white Capri 2800.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Festival Furores,

just as a public service, Southbound Records are doing tickets for Lee Fields for $32 - I saw him in London and gotta say as a sweaty soul revue style thang, he's hard to beat.

and as a personal celebration - finally scored Cliff Richard's Green Light album what I've been fiending for for yonks. in Groovy's $2 bin and everything.

yeah yeah it's Cliff and everything, but this is a pretty cool slice of summertime, yacht rocky vibes...
