I take your point, Graham, but I do wonder if there are as many places in the world where you can find all those things in one place within quite a short distance of each other. Maybe there are. I wonder, also, if there are more NZers than most other people - and I'm not saying this is unique - who have a corporeal sort of connection to the whenua. I know I do, and I know I'm not alone. Once again, perhaps I'm wrong. I had a conversation once that has always stuck with me, and it sums up beautifully my feelings about where I live in the world. It was a Belgian guy, who when I asked him - as you do - why he chose to live in NZ after only spending a couple of weeks here on holiday, said that he was driving down SH1 in the South Island. And the mountains spoke to him. I know exactly what he means.

Mick, bear in mind, we ain't out to change the world, here. This forum is actually an online community, and all the conversations are often just that. Conversations. Like at a dinner party but prone to eavesdroppers. Lots of them. And sometimes some of them report our conversations. In the end, though, that's all they are.

You sound pissed off, Russell. Come for a drink at the Neighbourhood bar.

We get an enormous array of music down here considering how far these peeps have to travel. I am most excited - and most unapologetic about it - to see Simply Red. Some say Hucknall is cheesy, and he is, but his music just makes me happy. And that, after all is said and done, is what this music listening lark is all about.

I never reread books but then I'm a philistine, and I don't watch movies over a certain age, and I don't watch them more than once.

I do think we should remove vote-splitting (so that an electorate vote implies a vote for the candidates party)
Disagree - last election I was in Ohariu-Belmont. I voted for Charles Chauvel because Peter Dunne..
I also strongly disagree. The two votes are the key to the system, and provide useful flexibility.
Me 3. I think it's integral.

I noticed that Russell - smack bang on the corner of Mt Eden Rd. I am very much hoping Aucklanders aren't stupid enough to fall for that one. Cos y'know, rates have just gone up.

And she's a dog lover. What's not to love?

That MMP – a system where the cast-offs of our political system can move aside to ensure real representation can continue – has shown its strengths in recent weeks is difficult to dispute.
Absolutely, Graeme. And it's also made our parliament a much more interesting place, IMHO. I can't imagine that some of our most colourful and young MPs, who are list only, would have been around if not for MMP. For me, it means that we have representation of all sorts, and I love it.

Can I just say that I spent the weekend with two very good friends who are both a bit god bothery, and we had much discussion. I wish I had recourse to some of this while I was at dinner with them.
