oops ignore the word "real" in the first sentence, don't mean to offend the etymologists

Getting back to the real subject of rugby, Mike (the originator of this stats post) has taken up the challenge and gone through all 1071 All Blacks to find out whether more All Blacks were born in Britain or the Islands!!!

The results are here: Retrospectively Speaking

    Fickin heck!

I really really reeeeeeallly don't want to go back into the earlier comments about racism but...

    Black Gold:
New Zealand has enjoyed a seam of Samoa’s most talented players

Couldn't Fitzy have come up with a better title? (Oh and I'm not implying he's racist just that the title is possibly not the best for connotations)

  • Speaker: Georgia on My Mind,

If Samoa can beat England and then put a whalloping on the USA, then they might still have a shot at the Quarters.

however, Barkley and Wilkinson are back and (as I predicted before) they will most likely kick Samoa into submission. Beyond that the English did, late in the game, play some very good forward-based rugby, they were 30 points down so it wasn't too smart, but they can use that for field position to get score dropgoals.

as for Ireland, they have two games left against the Argentineans and French. Given current form the Pumas will wipe the floor with them. The French game though will be close.

I expected Georgia Portugal, Namibia and Romania (and even Samoa and Tonga) to fade the further they went into the cup. With less money and hence access to physical trainers and therapists and the like it is harder for them to get back to match readiness. Georgian proved a little bit wrong, but the Namibians didn't look half as good against the Pumas as they did against the Irish.

    Wow, what a post.

A word that has been used incorrectly for a long time is "quantum"

It is often used to mean something large ("a quantum leap" "a quantum change") when in fact means means the smallest possible thing.

Heard it used today and I laughed out loud at the speaker by accident, which is what sparked me to write this.

    Merc it was Clerks.

And back to the original topic for a second: We now have to put up with our own SH reporters saying we've got imports

Like the All Blacks, the Portugese sport some overseas-born blow-ins.

    Back to the snowballing

Wow, I thought rule of thumb was going to be some kind of dirty measurement thing. You know, like shoe sizes.

Rob, I think the thread became a little "Friday Arvo".

Robyn, I love the way that the word "niggardly" eventually dissolves into nothing.

    Apology accepted Michael...oh wait.

Well the whiskey will apologise for all the world's ills. Mmmmm.

And, maybe I'm also too innocent, but how is "Rule of Thumb" sexist?

JP, you should be able to stream the ARC commentary] live, though I have to say it didn't bloody work during the NZ Italy game. It was up later for download though to watch with the replays.
