(I feel like I'm being initiated into a cult.)

So you're saying the subliminal messages are just a little too loud?

We'll get the indoctrination engineers right on that.

    all hail Xenu

Yeah Che, and to think I called you "bro".

i had extreme trouble convincing australians i was anything other than a new zealander.

You should've had a criminal record, then they'd believe you.

And hooray for Mike's first post!

Merc: the NZ Maori have never been a test playing team. they are a New Zealand representative side, like the English Saxons. To play for the Maori you need to show an affiliation to an Iwi. It was mooted a few years back that they should be able to play. But i don't think it was rugby players who suggested it.

New Zealand's first ever team was called "the Natives" which was largely Maori (Native meant born in New Zealand). the team later evolved, after the All Blacks were created, into the NZ Maori.

There's a really good fact sheet about the NZ Maori here (pdf). The guy who wrote it is a bloody genius. Also give Matt Te Pou's bio a read.

  • Speaker: Fifteen minutes of Fame,

James Ryan didn't start well but he seems to have shaken of the nerves now.

I'm seriously impressed with TV3's little rooftop set though. Isn't it loverly? And they really are that close to the Arc du Triomphe (the reverse shot was shown the other morning)

It looks like we need a new lock over in France. I reckon we should send Flavell, Filipo and Rawlinson, and ask the NH rugby folk to choose the proper Kiwi for us. What's the betting they pick the import?

If I was a NH rugby person, that's exactly what I would do because the other two are better rugby players and I wouldn't want the All Blacks to do well.

  • Speaker: Round One,

Don't worry Richard France are going (er, staying) home.

Actually after watching Ireland this morning... that is a little hard to swallow.

  • Speaker: Fifteen minutes of Fame,

Are you absolutely sure that Samoa will beat England? Really?

I think it will be a good game. But a lot of people were calling the South Africa-Samoa game "one to watch" (I didn't).

England didn't play that well but I think it was more being shocked by the USA putting up a half-decent fight. Did you see the way the USA fullback kept playing Sevens? Brilliant.

Still England were doing the right things and putting drives together. It just seemed slow and ponderous. Like a bunch of old men. Samoa will smash them up but I just believe the English will kick them into submission.

  • Speaker: It's On,

So what happens if the RWC turns out to be a parade of such games? Will we be all jaded and shit about winning the thing?

Of course, we'll never be happy :)

Nah the knock out games will be good.

How can I national character truely be measured with all of this miscegenation?

    Whut?

But about the game: I found it incredibly dull after a while. The last few minutes were good though (Italy should've got that last try).

England v USA looked good. USA looked equal parts intense and lucky.

Also, surely we're all excited to watch the opening game?

France. Argentina. It's got "upset" written all over it.

    Damn you're good.

I do alright, send all money to The Dropkicks
