  • Hard News: Get yer avatars out,

i can't get over so many young things wanting to listen to so many artists that have been around since well before they were born. we had hardly any interest in anything made much before we were born until we were much older (30s?)

By 1975 EMI NZ had deleted the Beatles catalogue! They were bemused that we had customers that wanted it in shops I was working part time in. We had to hassle to have it reissued.

btw, who is at No. 1? (pls excuse my ingnorance)

Smashproof, on Kirk Harding, an expat NZer's label, MTC. It deserves to be:

And here's another local tune that deserves some attention:

Simon - I'm sure you're right - they don't represent me though, nor do they really a lot of musicians in the small - I'm sure they haven't asked all the musicians they claim to represent about this issue

I agree, which is why in my blog post last week I said that APRA should know better. They are uncomfortably in breach of their moral obligations to their members here.

  • Hard News: Get yer avatars out,

APRA have deep pockets from their corporate masters

APRA don't have any corporate masters just to be clear. AMCOS on the other hand does. But APRA in theory represents creators....ie songwriters.

  • Hard News: High Noon,

My point is that, some will contend, MP3s are inferior to vinyl

    There's naught contend about it.

But it would be interesting to have a reputable estimate of the scale of the problem, I think.

I doubt you'll get that from IFPI, and they control the data you'd need (and know that they're stretching things just a weeeeee bit). There's too much invested already in the incredulously bogus figures they toss around.

Hell, these guys are better scaremongers than The Dept Of Homeland Security, Karl Rove and Sensible Sentencing combined. There is quite a history for this too, going back to the figures tossed around when blank TDKs were within days of destroying western culture in the early 70s.

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

Is a nonsense line that means absolutely nothing beyond the scare factor which doesn't take too kindly to any scrutiny

Like "you're going to have you're internet cut off for watching you tube videos"?

No, as Mark says, one is possible if not very probable. APRA's line implies all sorts of things, most of which are drivel.
