  • Hard News: God's squads,

A fair call Russell and others. Unlike the PM, I do do regrets, and I should have left the video alone.

Fair enough, David. I respect you saying so.

And here I was enjoying a break from #$%# copyright. Did anyone get to Lessig last night?

    Yup, and it was great.

I have tasked Matthew Poole with writing a review of the lecture.

Infected by too much time together lately in their cosy lil "blogmobile", surely. The tone of the pimply sniggering teen who fears the girls is coming through loud and clear.

Arrested adolescence is pretty much endemic in those parts.

  • Hard News: God's squads,

And in a shameless plug, I've written about an Act blogger being a total dick at the TVNZ7 Epsom debate

Act really is a magnet for damaged personalities, isn't it?

I'll never forget being at a public meeting where Michael Cullen spoke in 1999, and a small Act contingent's heckling turning into outright racism as an older Fijian man spoke. I am slow to anger and never prone to violence, but I really wanted to hit one of them.

It sometimes surprises me that Hide and Heather Roy aren't ever asked by journalists to own the behaviour of sorry little creeps like Mulholland and Clint Heine, who are, after all, very public party activists.

Then again, if they chucked all the weirdos out of Act there wouldn't be much of a base left ...

I can't see Jones accepting that.

And I wouldn't want to tear down his credentials either: Wikipedia says he has earned himself a B.A., an M.A., and a BPlan from Auckland University, and his community service has been officially honored.

Unfortunately he also has what I would regard as extreme, superstitious and misguided views on various social issues.

But I have also heard less extreme views. Views that would make the Left proud. It's really not as easy to put christians in the same boxes that you could put US christians.

Oh hell no. There's a long tradition of Christian social activism of many shades; the Anglican communion is so PC it hurts.

But 05 did see a great deal of activity from very conservative Christian groups. It's interesting to see where they're at this time.

Well, Russell, I've said this before and expect to be ignored once more, but I wonder if the media pack would like to hang around at the Pacific Island churches Clark has been dancing attendance on after Helen's moved on to the next photo op. Bro'Town it isn't.

Never said it was. But the turning of South Auckland over civil unions was widely forecast in '05, and it never happened. Quite the reverse.

I don't pretend to understand the culture, but a blanket ban on abortion, as per Family First policy, wouldn't seem to tally with the relatively abortion rate of PI women. It does seem that going to church doesn't necessarily mean voting church.

Not sure why people think that Christians all vote the same way or even share the same views on many topics.

I certainly don't. I was looking at the conservative Christian groups that are politically active.

Re: Farrars comments. By repeating them don't you just amplify the noise. Perhaps having a snip might save people the bother of visiting his blog but I'm wondering if its more of a minus.

You'll note I didn't link to it. But having criticised Steve Pierson at The Standard for what I thought was unwarranted language about David Farrar, I felt bound to call bullshit on him in this case. Bloggers do write about each other ...

And perhaps there's an up-side to the EFA, because two unsolicited and unwelcome letters from Phil Twyford ...

Oh, c'mon. He's standing in your electorate, isn't he? Aren't hard-working candidates meant to do that?

Is Wayne Mapp curled up somewhere asleep?

New Espiner: Peters thrown under the bus:

Meanwhile it looks like Clark is all but abandoning Winston Peters and she’s shifted the Maori Party and the Greens up to the front-ranked cabs. She told Sky TV’s meet the leaders’ debate last night that she thought it would be extremely difficult for Peters to hit 5% and that the polls indicated he wouldn’t win Tauranga.

Now we all know that, but it’s another thing to say it. She also endorsed the Greens, saying “their time has come” and for good measure agreed to the entrenchment of the Maori seats.

What Clark is trying to do now is send a signal to NZ First voters not to waste their vote and to tick Labour if they want to avoid National getting in. She has waited until the final week to do this, in case it looked like NZ First could hit 5% but it looks like she’s now cutting them adrift.

    Good.
