Those nostalgic for 70's British punk won't have to wait long. Recently there was mention of The Slits and their upcoming doco film Here To Be Heard - which is still crowd-sourcing for the funds to 'make it to the finish line', later this year.
Over the line already though is the Damned doco, premiering in a coupla days in London: The Damned: Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead. Powerful looking stuff from the trailer, can't wait - but Captain Sensible doesn't want a bar of it!
Shouldn't be too long before it shows here, probably at the NZIFF - which in Christchurch this year, is back in the CBD at last at the beautifully restored Theatre Royal. Further on the NZIFF, Chch finally gets (now with two capacious venues) a long overdue expanded programme. And with new projector equipment installed, Chch will again be able to host any gala premieres coming this way

Hard News: Campbell Live: A Disturbance…, in reply to
Oh gosh, quite forgot, it's Friday and my brain is elsewhere!

Don't be too despndent, there's always The Civilian: MediaWorks confirms reruns of Road Cops is its new current affairs show. Love this... 'Road Cops is a "natural evolution" of Campbell Live... [Mark] Jennings said that the stars of Road Cops had spent “much more time” in local and poor communities than even John Campbell, and that the social advocacy focus of the show would “definitely still be there,” with police promoting such values and messages as “don’t nick stuff,” and “don’t talk back, alright?”'
A random thought, with White Man Behind A Desk, always thought there's space for a Jon Stewart Daily Show take on things. He and Ben Uffindell / The Civilian are more or less in the same space, could harness their energies?

Lyttelton's Aldous Harding is making waves on her UK/Europe tour. In between dates in Manchester, she did three songs live in session on ' Happy Fall Guitarist' Marc Riley's BBC Radio 6 show last week. They have a great rapport! She's on for first song c. 20 min then back for two more c. 45 min including the just written The World Is Looking For You. Marc clearly a wider fan of kiwi music with UMO also on his playlist.

Hard News: Friday Music: Out there in…, in reply to
A great intimate set at the Gallery/Darkroom too. Included one or two Serge Gainsbourg numbers including Bonnie and Clyde with a guest 'Bonnie' whose name escapes me. Will Wood was a worthy opening act.

Echoing many of the points already made in thse posts, Martin van Beynen in the Press chimes in with this: John Campbell TV3 departure: He's no different to a can of soup. Van Beynen admires the man Campbell but is no great fan of Campbell Live. The article headline is made without any sense of irony - at least in terms of a nod to history.
A job in the art world surely beckons for JC if not in the the media... a NZ outlet for Campbell's soup perhaps?!

Chc has Mick Harvey tonight (Gallery @ Darkroom - Sold out I believe); Dark Matter and the Axemen @ Darkroom, and just quietly... Joe Irvine, yes he who stood up to the Killing Moon fiasco, @ Club Tavern fka Churchill's.
This will be a charity gig by Joe for the anti-bullying charity ‘Be The Change NZ’. We're assured of 'some tasty covers'. I don't mind, all in a great cause, plus taking an X Factor-obsessed 14 yr old daughter along for her first public (house) outing with her parents!

It's been a bit of an off topic thread - and here's another one. R.I.P Ian Curtis, 35 years ago today.

Hard News: Friday Music: So Rad, in reply to
Indeed it was Rob. And a glorious sunset to boot. I note Bruce has done some subsequent shows at the Auricle: End of the Alphabet, No Mean City and this one with Peter Kolovos.
