Yeah, JAMC live in Christchurch were nearly as bad as Oasis in Wellington a few years later
I saw JAMC at Town & Country Club in London, 1990 or 91. Not memorable, just very ordinary.
Did anyone go to the Tame Impala shows? I went with the 18 yr old to Welly. He loved it. He was probably just under the average age of the audience - 19 I reckon! Some older punters for sure (and many no doubt drawn across town to Moon Duo) but I liked it a lot less. Impressive songs and slick production but it was all a bit too rock starry for my liking. Hands waving in unison, sing-alongs... or maybe it's just me and a touch of Grant's cantankerousoldgrumpitis!
As punters we were also held back in the loos while we waited for the band to pass down a corridor from the dressing rooms to the stage. Maybe a move to keep the young things from mobbing the band? Dunno. Shed 6 ain't the best venue in town either by a long way. I like the band a lot but the live performance left me deflated.
Bespin, filling in last minute for Silicon (damn, really wanted to see Kody), were an able support.

It’s been a big week for Marlon Williams, who also picked up five nominations for this year’s New Zealand Music Awards.
Has been a superb year for Marlon... stellar performance at sold out shows in Theatre Royal in June and again last week at St Michael's and All Angels (where he sang as a choir boy singer not so many moons ago) - both with equally stellar casts.
And he's back in town for a sold out already show Marlon Williams sings songs for the Loons on Dec 23. Marlon is apparently giving all the proceeds from this show to the Loons Theatre Trust in Lyttelton to help buy seats in the new theatre.

Lawrence Arabia plays as part of Late Night Art at the Auckland Art Gallery next Tuesday
...and playing Chc Darkroom Gallery on Sat 17 October. That show has sold out but he's up for a Sunday show if he gets, and I'm sure he will, enough likes on the Facebook page :-)

Great resource! What a complex web we have, the Clean just one of many. Hell of a job to keep it updated. All the great historical Chch 80s stuff seems to be well covered.from an exploratory look. 'Mint Chicks' doesn't pull up yet Kody Nielson's Silicon (or link to Bic Runga).
Awesome remix of AHoriBuzz's Providence, a great song whatever the interpretation.

...the set list from PF in Chch on Thur night (should be attached). Bright Grey never disappoints. Going Fishing from the back catalogue. Loved too Trans Fatty Acid. - bugger, missed the cassette... if anyone has a spare for sale, I have ample capability to still play tape :-)
In one of his first legal outings, my 18 year old really got into it at the very front and was well chuffed to meet and chat with SFS post-gig.

John Campbell was a bit bumbly at times in that lovable Lloyd Scott manner. It was a long night but the live stream had few if any hiccups.
There was highlight upon highlight. Bill Savesi's touching speech, Don McGlashan and his Death and the Maiden guitar lesson, Jordan Luck's quote from Graham Brazier saying 'sing till you're in a pine box then come back and haunt them' - classic!
And the music, it's all about the music... Delaney Davidson's version of Billy Bold, Fazerdaze doing Dark Child and Multi-Love by Warren Maxwell and friends was superb - personal favs. All performances nicely complemented by the orchestral scores.

What an 'annoying' article! Not an immediate personal choice but Toby's got a strong point (citing Rowan Simpson) with Red Peak:
it looks like a flag, not a logo, and illustrates the point by placing it, and the officially shortlisted options, alongside some other great flags. It is simple enough to be drawn by a child - one of the criteria emphasised by the panel - yet there is genuine substance; the historic, cultural, mythological and even topographic references are there if you want them.
I am reminded of the flag of Antigua and Barbuda

Brian Rudman has a piece on this case in the Herald today: NZ should take a leaf out of liberal cannabis law.
He points out the absurd inconsistency of McDonald's decision in comparison to a recent case in June in Ashburton where an Israeli couple, caught red-handed with 6kg (= 9 times as much as Kelly van Gaalen had) of dried cannabis, were discharged without conviction! (Though, in return for a $2000 donation to the Salvation Army.)

That’s a really interesting observation. It’s not just having a merch desk that’s important at gigs, it’s making the time to personally sell your stuff, before and after you play: to always be hustling.
Absolutely. Maybe I'm old school in that regard, really can't embrace Spotify and streaming. The personal touch really counts. It's really cool to connect with the artist directly plus you help them out in sales in no small way. Delaney Davidson, Jol Mulholland, Ed Castelow all 'hustle well',... and Anthonie's such a charmer that my maiden aunt, had she been at the Wunderbar gig, would have bought a box load!
