If it's going to compulsory (a-f*#%^n-men) then why continue with the employee/employer contribution smoke and mirrors? It's all the same money from the same source, no?
And regarding the "lower wages" lines, unfortunately Farrar and others know full well that telling people they'll get less money right now in the hand unfortunately will play very very well with a large percentage of the population. But his Herald column is actually pretty bang-on. Yes he continues with the "but people want to start their own business with that money otherwise" fiscal-heart-strings crap but his overall comment theme that the total position of NZ Super plus Kiwisaver remains overly expensive and poorly targeted is one I agree with. And he seems to share my kudos for Labour for having the balls to finally grab that rail and kick us off down the path of fixing it.

Rather eerily my iPhone, which has never had any issues at all, stopped taking a charge this morning. Presumedly around the time Mr Jobs passed on o_0

Hard News: The price is that they get to…, in reply to
FB’s always had odd notions about what its users want. Does it not occur to them to ask us?
From the few articles I've read on Zuckerberg, I'm going to say no. He seems to genuinely believe that the minutiae of life digitised to friends and possible service providers makes for this extraordinary new way of living. And there is certainly upside potential, I just think they've rose-tinted it to themselves.
What is most revealing is that when talking about the positives it's always "you get all this without even thinking" (e.g. personalised recommendations, interesting photos, targeted offerings) but with the negatives it's always "you CHOSE to do this". Which is it, actively conscious decision or passively opaque magic?

The contrasting styles of the hoardings up in Victoria Park are illuminating - Labour has an image of Arden alone, Key has a slightly more prominent image on Kaye's billboard than she does, and the Greens have a picture of kids and a river.

Useful to determine the second choice if required, thanks.
Agree with Hayden's point though that a large number of people supporting MMP may avoid the second question all together - even with your tireless efforts :) -
Is there any further proof of the PM having "assisted" passport procurement than Peter Leitch saying the PM told him "he'd sort it?" Because I can't see any in that article...

I guess McCaw's achievement may be an enormity for the French. Or... nope, I got nothing.
And while we all love our Richie, Hamish McKay's gushing over the man throughout his TV3 commentary on Saturday night was hilarious. Apparently it's not just Kevin Hague hoping for a gay All Black...

Maybe someone should look at closing New North Road along the Kingsland strip on game nights
Kinda shocked it isn't. I heard Bond St was, is that right?

Hard News: The Minister's Brain Has Exploded, in reply to
Minister's wharf too small..
Heh, exactly...

Isn't this, at least partly, about trying to obscure the obvious narrative that the "Party Central" (eck) wharf that the Government had placed so much emphasis and political capital on was simply overwhelmed by a crowd 20x it's capacity - something incredibly obvious in hindsight at least. A story of "Party Central Wharf only able to hold 12,000 people" would have been awful for them. Awfully factual of course...
