  • Hard News: Deriving satisfaction from…,

It's so funny, it's so stupid, it's just so...

Copeland as Catholic shouldn't be involved with this lot at all,. And doesn't he realise Destiny think the RC Church is the Whore of Babylon (seriously, they do)

  • Hard News: Free Man,

Now I have to disagree - I am so utterly sick of being told a franchise of a multi-national corporation (the IRB) represents us and I owe it my loyalty I would happily burn ten thousand All Black flags.

Oh God, will I get arrested and locked up for saying that?

  • Hard News: Free Man,

Given the time he arrived, not that long after 9/11, and coming from his particular political background, I don't think the SIS over-reacted initially. But I think they then got blinded by the thought of "Islamic terrorist" and left rational enquiry at the door.

I'm not telepathic so I don't know what his real intentions or beliefs are - he might believe in establishing a worldwide Caliphate and destroying the values I hold dear in the process,on the other hand he very well might not.

I know Muslims living in NZ at the moment who do want to bring about Islamic rule around the globe, who see it as inevitable and God's plan, but they are really not that different from the nutters who believe in hastening the apocalypse and Christ's reign on earth.

But is he a risk to NZ society now? I certainly don't think so.

  • Hard News: The Near Future,

Moore's article ( and subsequent "I was only joshing, honest!") is weird. I guess he misses the limelight.

However, he is tapping into a fairly widespread mood of disenchantment with the current Govt, from all over the spectrum.

Three terms in and it does undeniably look very frayed around the edges. And let's face it, we all like blaming someone for whatever goes wrong in the world, and the Govt makes a great target.

While I know I won't vote national next time (Judtih Collins? Topny Ryall? Yuck!), I'm still not sure just who I will support.

    Waiting to be persuaded.

  • Hard News: Nasty,

Judith Collins is a good reminder of why I won't vote National.

Now I just wish I knew who I could vote for next year...

  • Hard News: Feckless Solutions,

Russell's point that none of the pundits seemed to realise that the mother was in fact in gainful employment is important.

Socially entrenched poverty, a side-effect of economic polices and decisions of the last 20 or so years, have had a huge effect but just don't seem to be enough alone to cause this.

Middle class people violently abuse and kill their kids as well, just not so often (or are better at covering theri tracks).

How this can be stopped, well i dn't have the answer.

But cutting benefits, no, that's just typically idiotic rubbish.

  • Island Life: Just Say No,

The entire thing has been handled very badly and DBP comes out of it looking less than clean, but I am not sure if it is a hanging offence.

I do feel sorry ofr Ms Setchell (and her partner).

NZ is tiny, especially when you get into these circles. There are aqlways going to be potential conflicts, but the people involved are usually very good at managing them.

Seems to me more like Hurring had a stupid rush of blood and acted without thinking.
