Speaker: Who are the news media?, in reply to
What about pure aggregators? Eg, suppose I write a program to more or less automatically aggregate news stories, and publish fair use snippets and links, or perhaps I syndicate stories under licences.
Having to divulge your source as an aggregator could never be a problem because you are revealing previously published material, I think if you said "The Herald told me" would absolve you of any wrongdoing, other than, perhaps, plagiarism. ;-)
I think though, that if you wish to be considered a journalist you should double check your facts and stay away from gossip. So perhaps an aggregator should be held to greater standards than what we have served up to us as News. -

I can see that there will be more people living in cars and on the street, more petty crime and multiple adverse impacts on children, the poor and the needy.
Catching up with real Australians...

A complicating factor there is that “pourage” rights are a non-trivial source of income for many events. The big guys can bid large for the right to serve drinks and then serve any old swill they like.
Well, I figure it like this, if they only want me for my money they can fuck off.
Going out is supposed to be fun, if it ain't I just don't go.
Whatever happened to things that were done for people to enjoy as opposed to a way to make a fast buck?
Oh that's right, National Government.
I could go on but what's the point. -

Global shipping line Maersk yesterday announced a penalty charge for freight crossing Auckland’s wharves, as more than 300 port workers began a three-week strike… …Ports of Auckland chief executive Tony Gibson said the surcharge was not unexpected
well quell surpreeze, Mr Gitsome used to work for Maersk.
Mr Gibson has had 30 years experience in shipping and logistics, first with Seabridge in Wellington, and then with Nedlloyd and P&O Nedlloyd. He worked in various roles in Africa, Asia and Europe, including as European Director of Customer Operations, Rotterdam, before being appointed Managing Director, New Zealand and Pacific Islands in 2002. Following a takeover by Maersk, Mr Gibson served as Managing Director of Maersk, New Zealand for three years.

it’ll be contracted out to companies like Fletchers.
As with Christchurch.
Has anybody else noticed how Fletchers shares have been bouncing around lately? An acquaintance told me gleefully a few weeks back that I should get some o’ them thar shares, said they'd be sweet pickin’s in a few days. Sure enough the price went up 13% over three days only to tumble a week or so later, someone is playing monopoly here me thinks.
