  • Up Front: No Smoke,

Speaking of Sherlock Holmes and smoking, he smokes a pipe in the film of course, and the credits end with the following note, which is probably quite common but I don't recall seeing it before:

"No person or entity associated with this film received payment or anything of value, or entered into any agreement, in connection with the depiction of tobacco products."

It would have to be excellent product placement to extend to the 1890s, but still.

I cannot quite imagine living in a place where you have this kind of range of food et al close to hand.

It's hard to get used not to, take it from me :-)

  • Busytown: The shakes,

Can we re-establish the comparison after somebody has actually flown commercial airliners into our buildings, killing three thousand? Until then we just don't know what angst we might be capable of, teen or otherwise.

Heh... Thank you Gio... I think...

Oh, it was definitely meant as a compliment.

Yes, what's stopping any of us from organising something like that? I'm sure we don't need Russell's mad organisational skillz, nor a sponsor for that matter. Unless you insist there must be free booze!

OMG, Giovanni is obsessed with Twitter!

    Like, totally.

The new PA design vaguely resembles the design of twitter.com, but looks nothing like Tweetie or Tweetdeck or Twitter for iPhone

Or Twitenberg, the folio version printed entirely in Bodoni.

  • Up Front: Day Five,

I picture them having lots of clocks on the wall like at the Washington post, except they always assume it's the "good time", like 4 pm instead of 4 am, or noon instead of midnight.

  • Up Front: Day Five,

Wifey works for an American based company. She is forever getting calls at 3am. They just don't get it. Seem to have no idea the world is round and the sun never sets.

I have one client in the States and they used to do that constantly. So I changed my number and simply refused to give them the new one - it was the only way. Note that this is an agency that works with translators all over the world, so you'd think they would have worked out the concept of time zones. But no.

(Incidentally, the 3am phone call when you have family overseas is not a pleasant thing.)

I think Giovanni's riposte may be the correct one.

One thing I will say about Twitter: it allows me to be a pain in the arse even when I'm not at an event. So that's something.
