Sigh.
Prop 8's pretty much a sure bet, now. Not enough votes to pull it back from 4% ahead.
The joys (read idiocy) of being able to amend you constitution by a simple majority! Ah well, the demographic trends are fairly stark - old people voted overwhelmingly against, people under 30 voted overwhelmingly for. Put it on the ballot again in 5 or 10 years and they'll be able to repeal the amendment.

Graeme, for once I know an electoral thing you don't, muwhahaha!
The problem is that under Georgia electoral law, you need 50% to win the senate seat. A plurality doesn't cut it. So if the democrat can get the republican below 50% (which is only 0.9 away).... we have a runoff.

Giovanni:
Good call on the gay thing - I noticed it in his speech and, possibly more meritoriously, he'd been using it in his stump speeches as well. So it was part of his platform as well as part of his victory.
On prop 8, its closed from 12-odd percent with 6% counted to a 6.5-odd gap with 32% counted. I'd start to worry if its much more than 5% with half counted.

Congrats, America :).

Snap, Craig.
On another note, from Glenn Greenwald @ Salon:
"For those hungry for a nice schadenfreude orgy, it's now getting very safe to turn to Fox. Bill Kristol -- after Fox projected NH for Obama -- just said, very somberly, that it's going to be a very bad night for Republicans and that between this election and 2006, it's one of the worst two-year periods for any political party, and Fred Barnes looks like he's about to cry. And there's still plenty of bad news for them to come.
The funereal aura is starting to set in over there. Concentrate on how much destruction they've sown and it will be quite pleasurable to watch."
Heh. I know a good recipie for Schadenfreude Pie

Mark:
Not that strange. Rhode Island has more people in it than Vermont.

Fine, Kyle, copy my Maine post without citation. Plagiarism, I say! Plagiarism!

Giovanni, remember Florida 2000. I'll wait for 20% of the actual vote to come in before I start celebrating...
-
Ok, wtf?
On the NY times count - 12% counted and Obama's ahead by FIFTEEN points in Florida? I assume that's the result of early voting, but even so, it looks like slaughter territory for McCain.
