No offence Llew, but at the next Wellingtonista meet up I'm going to sit away from you, you sound like bad luck! :)
RE: Cats.
Just yesterday my cat Jedi (what!?) managed to slice me half a centimetre deep UNDER my thumbnail! -
I played hockey for a long time and sustained nothing major in the way of injuries until 4th form.
Playing in the "halves" meant that I was the cannon-fodder in the defence of a penalty corner. I would sprint as fast as a could towards the guy who was going to hit the ball towards the goal with the intent of stopping the ball.
So we're practicing before the game. The ball is passed out and I run hard at the striker with my stick on the ground. He swings and as his stick follows through it connects with mine, rises up and smashes into my left eyebrow.
I go to ground, stunned. My Dad, the coach, tells me to "stop acting". Angry at the accusation I stand up to tell him that this "actually bloody hurts", which is when he sees the large amounts of blood spewing from my head. So he yells "get off the [astro]turf!" Bleeding on the turf carried a large fine in those days.
The fella who hit me apologised a lot over the years and was actually good enough to play for the Black Sticks at the Commonwealth Games.
I've still got the scar to show for it, but the worst part...on that shot the bastard actually scored a goal!

I once spoke to David Bellamy about this. He was against tidal generators but not wave generators. He's gone a little balmy about wind generation though, so I'm not sure if its an endorsement or not.
As a strictly non-serious end-of-the-day question, where does Mexico stand on this issue? Surely there'd be a big push for Mexican Wave Power (snigger).

Hope everyone's got their Christina Aguilera tickets.

I was going to mention Ticketek and friends.
Like with SKY TV, the NZRU has no facility to sell tickets itself (though with this whole whiz-bang interweb-amajig, I'm not sure why) so it has to contract a agency like Ticketek to do it.
If the NZRU is as weak-willed with Ticketek as it is with SKY then the punter will always be shafted. So why put up with being shafted again by a scalper.
Actually why don't people ever mug scalpers?
Speaking of streaking: perhaps the sponsors we are protecting with our laws could pay for some at half time. Male and female and sans-bikinis. "Jangly bits" included
-
RoO: you're assuming the ABs make the finals.
There is just somethig nasty about the whole scapling thing...
I support a band, buy all of their albums, wear the tshirt, save up to get a ticket but can't get one because someone who couldn't even name one song snaps up all the tickets. now I can't afford it because they're charging more than I saved.
It does scream of "tough luck chump", but really, who wants to be that person?
-
Anne? How can you complain about Super 14 tickets being too expensive and then laud an idea that reccomends selling the best seats for inflated prices?
-
Also there is a difference between the NZRU (they dropped the F, though I preffered it) and SKY TV.
-
Or for being prepared to sleep on that cold, cold pavement?
Do people still do that? ( Remembers that kid who got hit by a car )
So now I'm paying you to do a job I didn't want you to do?
( our author trys to think of analogy at this late stage of a Friday )

Basically, if a promoter doesn't take advantage of the last few dollars that can be made from an event and a third party steps in and grabs those dollars, why is that a matter for the criminal law?
But when the NZRU said "we'll cancel any tickets for the Lions tour we see for sale on trade me" there was a huuuge stink.
I suppose it's like spam. It's not illegal but we really wish it were.
If the profits are instead going to charity, then it's still not a matter for criminal law, but its not nice either.
