  • Hard News: Free the Street,

Seems I've already lost 5 of the 48 hours... I was never a fan, well, actually kinda loathed Shortland St (siblings liked it, so I did actually have a reason for my opinion), but maybe sometime in the next 43 hours I might have a look, just for laughs.

I managed to find another photo of my dog Zaizai! I've shared one before thinking it was the only one I had left, but a bit of digging around found this one, him sitting content with his toy.

  • Capture: Going Walkabout in Sydney, in reply to Jonathan Ganley,

Is that real? Not some CGI'ed still from a sci-fi film? Still, my impression is Barcelona doesn't deal much in straight lines or 'normal' architecture.

In other words: mind bendingly brilliant photo.

  • Capture: Going Walkabout in Sydney, in reply to JacksonP,

Thanks, but as I did not explain very well to Sofie, that photo is at least as much to do with brilliant luck with air quality and weather as anything I did with the camera.

It's even less relevant, but what the hell... Everything at the Guandi Temple needed a damn good clean up and a bit of restoration, especially the murals, but even for all the wear and tear and layers of grime, this dragon still strikes me as being totally awesome, almost alive.

We had unusually clean air and brilliant sunlight that day. Unlike this one, from the weekend I spent in Linfen and Yuncheng, southern Shanxi. This is the main altar in the Guandi Temple at Xiezhou, outside Yuncheng. Awesome place, pity about the air quality.

Seems everyone has taken the day off. Fair enough.

Well, alright. It's a bridge and it's got columns on it. Longtan Park August last year.

  • Hard News: Where do you get yours? (Food…, in reply to Sofie Bribiesca,

Thanks for the tips, Sofie. If I don't actually remember the details when it comes time to make our move, I'll certainly remember where to look and who to ask.

    Tai Ping

Interesting name. I assume in Chinese characters it's 太平, which is one of several words meaning 'peace'. Or perhaps the combination of the cold my daughter gave me for my birthday, today's heat and humidity, and the approaching thunder storm (now that me and the wee one are safely back home, I really hope it hits us square on and is followed by a nice dry nor'wester, but somehow timed to not soak my wife on her ride home) are getting to my head, because my next thought is '太平天国/Tàipíng Tiānguó', the kingdom that almost toppled the Qing in the mid 19th century, led by a nutter whose time with missionaries wound up with him believing he was the younger brother of Jesus Christ.... that kingdom was neither as peaceful or as heavenly as the name proclaimed. But the Dom Rd Tai Ping is probably just a supermarket.

Yes, I do have a huge stack of essays and test papers that needed to be marked...

These teeth and chest don't sound good. I hope you feel better soon.
