  • Speaker: Why Auckland, and New Zealand,…,

Hate to say it, but Chch has a golden opportunity for light rail - just hope that Big Ger et al don't fumble the ball (or get talked out of it by Mr J)

  • Speaker: Why Auckland, and New Zealand,…, in reply to Hilary Stace,

And have seen in Archives NZ plans tabled in Parliament for lines from the Central Station in Coutenay Place to Island Bay and to Miramar (1920's, from memory)

  • Hard News: We interrupt this broadcast ..., in reply to Keir Leslie,

Late to this - Ok - peccavi - spent last night watching Midnight in Paris and Fri the Chauvet Caves with my 3D's instead of Doing My Duty and watching party broadcasts - but, just to say, am struck by the vintage Labour posters and designs of 1945 - Simple layout plenty of words (slightly orwellian in the Victory Manifesto, tho') - could still use them today, especially in the case of Christchurch

  • Legal Beagle: Up to 11,

Puzzled by constant reference to Italian Parliament as the bogeyman. Their parliament may be fractured, but their society and general governance seems to be as stable as any other in the EU

  • Hard News: Winning the RWC: it's complicated, in reply to jb,

Boofheads? Rubbish. Maori TV commentary (by an ex AB and an ex-Wallaby ) was entertaining, knowledgeable and without rancour.
Far superior to the usual TVNZ hacks
    My compliments to Maori TV

  • Field Theory: Rugby World Cup stories, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

Or even a return to a re-jigged form of legislative Council. Qld ("The Police State" of the 70's) is the only other Australasian govt to have a unicameral parliament - and the reign of Bjelke Joh illustrates the fun and games which can result

  • Field Theory: Rugby World Cup stories, in reply to BenWilson,

But couldn't Parliament always ignore decisions of the old Privy Council? Agree that this development is very worrying, though. The whole Bor R could abolished overnight, if it suits any govt's agenda. The whole undefined number of crims running free (according to Mr Key) smells of the Reichstag Fire -
Not only Godwinning, but also OT with no mention of RWC - so sue me

  • Field Theory: Nous voulons que les Tricolores,

With any luck you can wear that All Black one all the way through to the final and even the morning after,

Considering that SBW couldn't get even 40 minutes of wear out of his shirt, would not be too optomistic...

  • Speaker: Party Central, structures and silos, in reply to BenWilson,

"Good point. The best strategy for dealing with National might be to ignore Key altogether. To neither ask nor answer any questions to or from him, addressing them always to the people who are technically responsible for everything, the ministers. "

The Norman Kirk technique for dealing with Muldoon. Worked quite well. Unfortunately Rowling et al never kept it up after Kirk's death

  • Field Theory: How's that working out for…,

Why Oh why can't the RWC be like the Wellington 7's which even non-rugby players can enjoy?. NZers (OK, Welllingtonians) can get into a carnival spirit. Yet RWC has such an air of commercial compulsion about it. Ironically the strongest rugby city, Christchurch, becomes the former-RWC-Centre which shall not be mentioned..
