Late to this - Ok - peccavi - spent last night watching Midnight in Paris and Fri the Chauvet Caves with my 3D's instead of Doing My Duty and watching party broadcasts - but, just to say, am struck by the vintage Labour posters and designs of 1945 - Simple layout plenty of words (slightly orwellian in the Victory Manifesto, tho') - could still use them today, especially in the case of Christchurch

Unless all the other parties started advocating cannibalism or some such, I doubt you'd catch me voting for National, but apart from that I don't think I've ever voted consistently for a particular party (except McGillycuddy, but that's not an option any more). Frankly, I'd like to ban all parties and make it actually representative of the electorates, but I know that would lead to invisible alliances and I prefer it out in the open.

I saw the Herald poll thing and was astounded. Surely even a nat party supporter would have been bored by their election broadcast. John Key can be "charming" but that was not him at his best.
Shows what utter crap those polls are and makes me feel like tearing every hair on my head out.

I can't wait to see how crazy Act's campaign address is. I shall be rather put out if it isn't.
It will be a Requiem - Grant them eternal rest - I pray - and also to the forgotten ghosts of the fourth Labour Govt - any survivng members must surely be voting National to see that the "business" they started is well and truly finished.
NZ is borrowing 380 mill a week, annually we come up with a shortfall of 20 billion or thereabouts - there are approx 1.2 million people paying tax - so to do what we are currently doing as a nation and with out buying Len Brown a train set - we should bill each tax payer an additional $16,500.
Problem solved - Party Vote adn Party some more with Dexter for books balanced early and problems solved.

I would say that the ruination of universities is too much policy, the overarching self interest of adminstrators, and not enough room for an education of any significance regardless of the discipline.
Where someone wishes to act in a manner that is altruistic or philanthropic I don’t tend to regard it as an evil or a matter that would piss me off - I seem to recall that the input he was willing to put in was if National remained as the govt.

What he says is valid IMHO.
He did support the Labour and NZ First originally - but that didn't go to well.
Should Owen Glenn do something new or helpful I would wait to see what that is and hear from those he helped/assists and let them be the judge.
National have to first win the election I understand - though Mr Glenn may do something anyway.

Now just need to announce they won't to the useless and destructive Kapiti expressway and instead will electrify the train to Palmerston North or put it towards light rail in Wellington.
Labour's already stated they won't do the expressway, and will fund 100% of a local link road instead.

It was very telling that John Key, who very rarely makes an appearance on "Morning Report", declined to appear this morning on a 1-on-1 debate with Phil Goff. Key's explanation was that he has four other debates scheduled during the election campaign and thus wouldn't have time to prepare. He is instead doing a solo extended interview next week.
I thought Goff acquitted himself well in his own solo interview today.

It's telling all right. He's probably going to be elected in a month, and he's not willing to spend more than 4 sessions telling us why.
I'm looking forward to tonight's debate. We might get a taste of what it is that Key is so scared of.

Goff acquitted himself very well. If the point that Key is dodging the hard discussions isn't accepted by the electorate by now...

IMHO - Key's witless retort "spend like a drunken sailor", was dum - it could have been so much better, "spend and tax us to a standstill" or "spend and tax us into oblivion" - or something similar would have been more effective.

I have just heard of the death of Eric ‘Android’ Marsden
last week – so the twins are back together again, RIP Eric…
He was always the saner, practical one of the band (and Lincoln Road flat), I used to think of him as the quartermaster of the Androidss, there’s a memorial in Chch this friday, more details when I hear them…
