Public Address is a cultural treasure and Russell and everyone else who has made it what it is should feel a ridiculous level of pride.
As a reader, lurker, and occasional commenter I have learnt so much here, and it has sent me down so many new paths and opened so many new doors.
Please don't stop, ever.

Bwahahahahaha!
Aaron Gilmore on the revenge trail? Now THAT would be some kind of weird poetic justice.

In a weird way, I feel sorry for them. How exactly does someone like Slater or Odgers end up such an angry, toxic person? At what point do you lose your empathy, and stop seeing the people and only see the politics? It's sad.

Just to change tack...why do so many people assume Dotcom is "using" Harre and Harawira, and not the other way around? If I was a lifelong activist for the Left, and a naive-but-rich person offered to help fund my campaign to get into Parliament, I'm going to at least consider an 'ends justify the means' strategy. Personally, I think they've been bloody clever.
If they make it in, he's not paying there salaries anymore, and his money becomes less relevant.

I actually don't believe John Key is a nice man. There's something really cold and hard and selfish behind those eyes.

I distinctly remember chanting "Fuck Lockwood Smith!" while marching against the Todd Report in 1994. While I feel a little bad about it now - Dr Smith is by most accounts quite a nice man - I think anyone claiming that it's a startling new development is being rather disingenuous.

Does the mentioning of other candidates only count if you use their real name? Laila and Hone could just make references to the Smiling Assassin...

I was glad to see a few people out for Race Banyon this morning at Alleluya. It's been my near-daily morning port of call for about 3 months (after a job move to K Rd), so I've seen the last 3 or 4 bFM Breakfast Clubs. When you subtract the bFM staffers and the artists themselves, there's not many folk dragging their sorry asses out of bed to see some great live music. Eli Driftwood last month was fantastic.
(I was going to pop over and say hi Russell, but I was technically having a meeting. Next time!).

Access: Autism, ABA and being a bad mother, in reply to
My son is my son, a unique individual who at 2 years old was labelled as being on the autism spectrum. Can I choose to not use that label in the future? Sure. Can I rewrite the past and stop a doctor giving it to him? No I can't. So apologies if the use of it has caused confusion or bemusement. I'm 3 short years into a long journey.

Great post Hilary.
From my experience, parents want other people to love their autistic child for the perfect human they are, not the person they are not, or could be.
This, times a million. On Saturday, while parents of 'normal' children were no doubt running around doing Saturday morning sport and whatnot, our 5 year old looked up from the intricate drawing he was doing and told us "today is the day called the miracle of kisses." Too perfect for words.
