I could've added to that. The post above had a section about Maradona in it when it was first drafted.
At some point in my childhood my father (or possibly an uncle) told me that Maradona was the greatest player of all time, and being young I believed it, unquestioning. Something I miss, as an adult I often argue too much about stupid things like that.
The Hand of God became, to me, a fun player having fun. Disregarding all the evidence to say that he was somehow divine. A crazy man-god who was too busy enjoying the moments to care that he had pissed off a lot of people.

Sniff sniff Boo hoo hoo! The ref let in a goal when the guy was offside! Wahwah! Then he disallowed a goal when the guy wasn't offside at all. Cry cry cry.
Jesus for once in their life can football players stop complaining? England should fire them all and hire lawyers because it seems like the games can be won by argument alone. Screw a decent defence and striker who look like they're hungry for goals.
The best thing about football is the flow of the game. Slow it down and you may as well pick the ball up and run with it.

I actually like the chances of a selection of Italy, Spain, Germany and Japan against those particular nations (to which we must add the Netherlands and France).
While it would be an amazing game, I fear the outcome could cause another war.

I noticed someone on twitter last night (well, very early this morning) noted that had the goal been allowed, England's attack may have slackened because they would stop searching for the equaliser (or winner)

Even a cross-bar travesty that will have German hearts round the world singing, a wrong finally righted in their eyes.
Apparently the Germans don't put as much stock in the England rivalry as the English do. They really get worked up for the Netherlands though.

Oh and in passing, I popped into the Sony shop in Wellington where they have a 3D TV on display. Part of the footage is from the Confederations Cup... Sweet Holy Jesus Shit it looks AWESOME! And the dude said he's getting a disc of stuff from the World Cup next week which will look even better.
