re Telethon. They've already raised $450, 000 - pretty good, I reckon.

Right on, Sacha. I love her to bits. So funny, so red, so just very much herself.

I loved Telethons. And I will be watching some of it, for no other reason than nostalgia. And the comedy, and the drag. But really, it's a bit like Xmas isn't it? When you were young, it was magic. When you are older, you remain perpetually baffled (especially when childless) as to where the magic went.

Oh, Giovanni, aren't they all philistines? Having said that, I do like a bit of pineapple on me pizza.

Some other maori words I love and use frequently, and are, I would suggest, appropriate to how I feel about this forum - awhi because this place can be, at times, supportive; manawa because I have big heart for very many of you; tuakana teina because sometimes I feel like a big/little sister; and last but not least whakarongo because I feel listened to. Some times. Most of the time.

That would be, Mark, because some families are, to put it kindly, shit. And their children should never live with them. There are many wards of the state who are unable to live with their own families - and that means extended, not just immediate, because they are not healthy places for those kids to be. I teach in an area where, quite frankly, we would be buggered if it weren't for grandparents, for example. We have a few children who have been removed from their parents because of neglect/abuse/mental health issues. Those children will definitely, if they need to, be living with their families as teenagers because their parents will not be in the picture. There are however children who I teach who will probably end up living on that young persons' benefit because their entire family is toxic. Loving rellies aren't that easy to find. Ask CYFS.

The only thing that fits the format is corporate food interests that benefit from people not knowing how to cook or seeing it as too time consuming or difficult. It isn't either.
his is why the Food Show blows. Most of the stuff being sold isn't food however loosely one defines it.
Oh dear, Brickley. Who done got up your arse? The food show is fantastic, in my VHO, because you get to see alot of smaller artisan outfits you may not normally. I discovered Aromatics and the St Andrew's Lime people amongst others. And then, what I did, when I was down in the Hawkes Bay one Xmas was to go around all the different places and came back with a car full of yummy yum yums. I love supporting NZ made products and that's what the food show is good for, for me. For you, maybe not so much.
But anyone giving me shit for my Hubbards Golden Sunrise porridge sachets? Can bite me. Like I need to wake up 15 minutes earlier to add linseeds and slivered almonds to my rolled oats, and then leave a grotty pot waiting for me at the end of the day. More time in bed is my priority, so the sachets win. I imagine most people are able to decide for themselves where the tradeoff line is drawn without being told they're in thrall to the global food industry.
What she said. After the gym at 6 in the morning, I come straight to work and have my porridge. I really don't want to be washing pots at work quite frankly.

I think you might find, as well, that this particular young man seems to have set the situation up, from all accounts. What on earth was he thinking, if this is the case?
-
But there are more than a few with an insecure need to declare that we are "the -st in the world" at some particular attribute
George, surely you understand that that is a universal thing? Every countries citizens do that, in my experience. And similarly, everyone does that shake of the head, laughs, and then says "Only in......." which is patently ridiculous, really.
