I see, Sacha. Like Facebook has, you mean. Danielle, Deborah and I are all very familiar with that function. I, too, Deborah would be thumbs upping to all your comments.

Some form of peer rating
Nightmare!
Peer rating sounds very scary. Sort of like a popularity contest but more detailed as to why people don't like you. I would fail. Very badly.

Why, yes she did. You are very right, Sacha.

Ever so slight diversion here. For Islander. Did you happen to see the doco on Maori TV about JC Sturm? What a glorious woman. I had heard of her, but have never read any of her stuff. What would you recommend I start with?

the multiple subjects in the blog posts (I don't mind their length) make it impossible in the comment sections to react meaningfully. The commentary is on a million different issues and there is no threading possible.
Hmm. I'm not entirely sure what threading is. Is that when there are different threads for different topic-y things? I go to several forums that are like that, but they are just that - just forums. The community here is about discussing the blogs of our beloved Head Bloggers, I would have thought, in which case, threading would be somewhat irrelevant. And as for making meaningful comments, and it all being very confusing. What I think it this: many of the conversations on here reflect very accurately the way that the people who contribute here converse in general, I have found. All disjointed etc because, let's face it, when you're interesting and you think about alot of stuff, there's alot of stuff to say. Can't be doing with these people that don't talk like that. Or who use words sparingly. Some say "Still waters run deep", I say " Sometimes shallow waters is just shallow waters". I have to say that it is my distinct pleasure to have met fellow PASers a few times (some with very naughty regularity) and every time, it's exactly like trying to follow the conversation here. You have to be quick, quite willing to butt in, and very willing to listen. You may not always understand what you're hearing, but you can always bring it back down to your own level, at some stage.

Pah! I love you. As you were.

I didn't have much to say about that post, afterward, Emma, because I was speechless with awe. Is that the word I'm searching for? Yes, I think it is. I find your writing just so breathtaking. So engaging. So very right to the heart of it all. Immensely effective way of taking people into a life that many have not lived, and that many still do. That piece, especially, cries out to be read by a much wider audience, I think. It could do a lot of good. And really, my darling, you could do with far more accolades than we are able to offer.

I'm in a benevolent mood, Gio, so kindy it is. We're a bit quiet here on the first day back, so I'm outside with my laptop. When are you next back, Jolisa? A get together we shall have. I was thinking a bit sooner tho'........
