Back on planet Earth, I've just called last orders on comments to my politics-adjacent MUSE posts. Will turn them off lunchtime-ish tomorrow and reverse the flow when I can be arsed on Sunday morning-ish. (Going to a multi-party party on Saturday night, so don't anticipate being up at sparrow fart.)
Not that hard. Nobody's free speech being crushed.

Hi, folks. First, once again many thanks to the awesome PAS Massive for keeping the signal-to-noise ratio pleasingly high. Just warning that I’ll be (temporarily) closing off comments on this thread from lunchtime tomorrow (Friday) until I can be arsed on Sunday morning. -Ish.

Hard News: A week being a long time in politics, in reply to
Whatever happened to “publish and be damned”?
I've got a suggestion - the next time you want to be brave with other people's reputations and livelihoods put your money where your mouth is. And, quite frankly, do think "publish and damn the consequences" is a big part of what's wrong with tabloid media culture in the UK?

I believe if you consult a map, you’ll see this debate isn’t taking place in a European country, so the argument hardly stands…
Oh, Susannah… next you’ll be telling Grey Power to mind the geographical failwhale of talking about keeping “the country’s population to remain Pacific-based and not have such a large Asian component.” :)

Tussock:
And in Australia, I can't say I find the sight of voters having to run a gauntlet of party hench-things handing out "how to vote" cards would enhance my sense of democratic gravitas.

Seriously, what's the argument against fixing the election date on (say) the Saturday after the third Friday in November? The only exception being the Government losing confidence or supply, in which case the election is held at a time determined by statute NOT the strategic convenience of the Prime Minister.
