  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

I was living in Israel when An Angel at My Table came out, and they were raving about it. It seemed everyone there had seen it - The Piano too.

Sort of glad for the people who have expressed support for MEAA(NZ)Inc, who have just dodged a bullet, to a large extent. I think they were wrong, but many of them are friends, so...

Well, give them a hug from a stranger in Rotorua, and then kick their bums and tell them not to do that again without rillyrillyrilly knowing what the heck they are doing and why they are doing it and who they are doing it with first, will ya.

    Bloody kids. Tch!

Great student graduates bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign spending, though. And for great future graduates, you need great teachers and great resources.

But that's the problem with politics and democracy: long term goals take a back seat to instant gratification.

Yeah...compromise. Let's hope that compromise is perfectly centred...not too left, not too right, fair and balanced given the fucked up circumstances.

My hope will be that The Hobbit gives a nice kick start to the economy again, and we can work on what needs to be done for our education and health sectors (which are sexy as hell, Tony Parker).

As for Simon Whipp, he's a cunty cunt from cuntsville. Cheryl West woulda totally hated him in real life on the telly.

Sigh...Have some Hungarian Rhapsody, people. For the genius and the levity.

I'm elated, angry, and saddened all at once. I feel like a traitor to myself both ways and back again. Happy that the film will stay. Unhappy about everything else. Is there a word for this?

  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

I haven't yet seen "In Spring, One Plants Alone", but I must. I've only seen Vigil, The Navigator, What Dreams May Come and River Queen.

And yes, he is an auteur, and I would like to see all his work. Visually stunning and atmospheric, his films are an experience that wraps around you like a blanket, like a fog, like love. Beautiful.

I think his sympathy with this land, its culture and people would be ideal for Parihaka. I'd love to see him do a film about this area, too - Gilbert Mair and Te Kooti near the end of the Maori Wars, for example.

I have great love and respect for Peter Jackson, too, though I've not seen TLoR. The last film I saw of Jackson's was Heavenly Creatures, which I loved. It is without doubt a great film. But my faves, to date, are still Brain Dead and Meet The Feebles. (Oh look, a left wing reporter). Sick. :D

    lol@Craig

I think it's time for a cold one. I have every link open that y'all are providing in an effort to educate myself, and now I'm completely crosseyed and have reached the giggling like a lunachick stage.

Thanks, you guys, for being a drop of witty reason in a bucket of witless confusion.

    Cin cin!

  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

I'm completely insulted by Rudman's view.

The only reason there weren't more men being rightfully pilloried in this saga is because there weren't more men involved. Whipp was the only one, and he got his too. So, nope, no sexism.

And the union bashing? Ummm, I generally support unions, I think they have advanced western civilsation hugely, and I think there is a place for them today. Without a doubt. Does this mean I have to support every union in every action? No, it does not. I'm not a blind ideologue, ffs - each on it's own merit. Like the women. And the men.
