  • Field Theory: What to watch,

Yep, not a lot of imagination went into it. Southland play at Rugby park and there's a Rugby Park in Christchurch as well. I'm guessing there's several others around the country for further confusion.

I'm looking out for a "Bollocks Park" where people go to kick their balls round.

  • Hard News: Fixing Auckland,

If it was permanently down it would maybe never be a problem but it is going to go up and down often for obvious reasons and when they have large numbers wanting to get from one side to the other it's going to be an issue every single time simply because of the time it takes to get it up and down.

Another solution would be to get a whole lot of canoes tied to ropes that we can ferry ourselves over on, or a raft ferry like in Fellowship of the Ring manned by hobbits, or else ropes and make-shift grappling hooks, Bear Grylls style.

  • Hard News: Fixing Auckland,

I went with wifey and 4 year old on Saturday and thought the place was very cool. Will be going back when it warms up a bit now and then. Probably the sort of place we'd go once a summer I suppose for wander round.

Like an earlier poster we were there when the bridge broke down, or broke up might be a better description. There were perhaps a thousand or so on each side stuck. I saw hundreds turning and leaving from the CBD end and eventually when it did come down the two masses met in the middle and it narrowed and slowed to a shuffle taking maybe ten minutes to get across.

I was picturing it in nasty weather, or with drunks, a punchup, or with some sort of accident and wondered how on earth you'd safely get off there in a situation like that. There's nowhere to go but over the rail.

So as RB said, they'll have to work that out in advance and put something in place to make sure it's all safe.

I actually thought when the two ends came down that they were going to hold the people on the CBD side for 5 minutes while the WQ side came over and emptied out a bit, but nope, it was a go for it free for all.

I think the bridge is about 2-3 metres too narrow, especially considering possible future growth, expansion, development, and the potential events that there could be. They almost need another raising bridge closer to the harbour where it narrows for the boats to come through. As an emergency backup as much as anything.

  • Field Theory: All Blacks v South Africa…,

    Sheesh. That'll learn me.

I posted that because people (not you guys) have been doing what they always do and going on about what a great omen it is for the RWC. Most of the media before and after the game is about what the result 'means' either bluntly or subtely. In other words, what it means for later in the season.

    Recordiari:

Yes, we’re too afraid to have confidence in a team that fully deserves it because of the patterns of history.

We beat France by 47 points in 99, Aussie by 29 in 03 and France by 51 in 07 and had full confidence then as well. Turned out we shouldn't have ;)

It's a knockout comp. We'll be out of it before we even realise WTF happened. Or else we'll win it (most likely in a totally different way to Sat night).

The games now mean absolutely nothing for the RWC. Which was my point. I vividly remember people planning the victory parade up Queen St before the 95 World Cup final as well based on how dominant we had been. France in 99 was a little bump in the road on our way to great places, as was Aussie in 03 and the coaches in 07 have admitted to looking past France in the quarters to games beyond despite what had happened in previous tournaments.

My advice would be to enjoy the win and worry about the other games when they roll around.

What I expect though is that we (fans) will have an eye on the semi before we play the quarter, and if we make the semi we'll have an eye on the final, and if we make the final we'll have an eye on the cup. All bad, bad habits that we didn't learn from in 99, 03, and 07.

So why should now be any different?

I just hope that none of the players and coaches are doing the same thing and I honestly think that this time they won't. They've said as much, that they will treat every knockout game as though it could be their last.

We are fortunate that we have the same coaching group as last time and same captain and First Five amongst others. I think if we do crap out it'll take one mammoth effort from our opponents (and some dodgy reffing like last time ;) )

    Something to ponder:

In 1999 we beat France 54-7 at Athletic Park. Later that year they blew us out of the RWC.

In 2003 we dorked Aussie 50-21 in Aussie and then 21-17 at Eden Park. Later they shut us down completely 22-10 and out of the RWC we go.

In 2007 we savaged France 61-10 and 42-11. And we all remember a few months later they kissed us good bye in Wales and out of the RWC.

    See the theme?

    From that article

    All Blacks jersey prices:

    USA -
    RWC version - US$89.99 - NZD$103.80 (worldrugby.com)
    Test version - US$79.99 - NZD$92.60 (worldrugby.com)

    UK
    RWC version - 64.99pounds - NZD$122.20 (rugbystore.co.uk)
    test version - 54.99pounds - NZD$107.70 (rugbystore.co.uk)

    NZ
RWC version - $220 (Ryos in Wellington and Champions of the World)
Test version - $190 (Ryos in Wellington and Champions of the World)

*Overseas prices do not include postage and packing

That's just absurd. With our dollar where it is the price should have come down. Clearly NZers are being ripped massively. They'd be importing them for under $100 NZ and flicking them off for $220.

I have heard that the Adidas stores are getting pissed off because people have been going in and trying them on to get the right size and then going and buying online overseas. They are saying that people should be supporting the NZ [ripoff] market. Funny when they are getting them made in China.

Radio Sport has been on it.

    and there's also this

Mr Huggett confirmed that some overseas websites are being investigated to see if they were breaking a cross-border agreement which stops them from selling to New Zealand residents.

So they have laws which allow them to rip people off? Another fine hour for the 'free market'.
