this is better than the current situation where schools officially close for an hour (during the school day) and have someone come in and speak to the whole school on religious matters. if we start to investigate what sorts of people are having access to our kids during this official closure and what exactly they are teaching, we might prefer something different. kids don't have to sit through these sessions of course. they can have the privilege of feeling like social outcasts by sitting in a separate classroom and doing not much at all.

I'm with you there. I've heard some horror stories along those lines, with school authorities really not thinking about what's going on on their property. If Nat Torkington's reading, he might be inclined to tell one such ...

And the way I read it, Tamaki's expressed desire is democratic. However fanciful, there's no way his statements are seditious.

Really? A quote from the linked story:

Tamaki told his followers that New Zealand's government will soon be upon the shoulders of Jesus Christ.

"It's a government that shall govern this nation that is not like the governments of this world. It's not a dictatorship, it's not a democracy, it's a theocracy."

I'm not taking him particularly seriously, but I'm not sure his desire is democratic.

i would have like atheists to be much more involved in the discussions - i did invite russell to come along, but he was obviously busy with other things.

That's not a little snippiness is it Anjum?

I had an income to try and earn and a can't-handle-school child to look after on Monday. As noted, I also had a prior evening appointment with the sodomites.

But yeah, Paul's opinions on the forum itself are his own. I just get uppity when the profoundly intolerant complain about intolerance.

  • Hard News: Nasty mixtures,

If you want quality and strict measurements then you buy a retail product that is labelled. That is no reason to criminalise those of us who prefer to purchase it in other ways.

I guess so, but given that random dosage from cowboy operators seems to be the cause of most problems ...

I don't know of any dairies selling BZP by the gram (but have heard rumors of such from Christchurch - which seems to be the home of retarded BZP use).

Yes. As I noted, the difference in ED admissions between Christchurch and Auckland warrants some sort of explanation.

PS: I'm actually going to be in Christchurch this weekend doing various things for a forthcoming project, and the city's curious fondness for BZP overdosage, NOS etc is something I'd like to look at. If anyone can suggest an informed commentator, I'd be glad to hear of it asap. Just click the little envelope icon under my details to the left there.

  • Hard News: Nasty mixtures,

Regulating BZP won't stop E from containing BZP ...

But it will prevent the surprise-package dosages of BZP that seem to have been an issue in Christchurch. When some kid necks a freelance party pill that turns out to be five times stronger than the next one is when you get problems. At the moment, you can sell the stuff by the gram in dairies and I don't think that's optimal.

  • Hard News: Wonderful athletes,

    On the ABC website tonight:

"Set 347 to win, the home side was struggling at 5 for 116 in the 17th over"

Do you think the Aussies would have been feeling cautiously optimistic at this point?

They were probably really rating their chances when they had us 4 for 41 ...

  • Hard News: Wonderful athletes,

Apart from anything else, how was Gillespie?!

I think most of us were thinking it had slipped away when he came to the wicket - and the guy clouts 28 off 15 balls!

The over from Watson where he edged it all over the place and then finished off by smacking one past mid-off for four was just priceless.

It seems fair to say they're in good touch. Bring back Bond and Vettori and have Oram replace Styris when he's fit and they look have as good a chance as anyone of winning the World Cup.

(Note: Celebrations begin on the previous page, with Felix's heartfelt apology to John Bracewell and everyone else he ever doubted.)

  • I'm gonna try meth, just once,

Hey, the imbedding worked last time I did one of these.

I'd appreciate some help from someone with editing privileges :-)

Hmmm. This happened to me once. I deleted the article and posted a fresh one and it worked that time.

I could kill this one if you want to try again ...

  • Hard News: The Report Card,

On the subject of this being a good time to call for the right to hit kids, we have the Chief Executive of For the Sake of Our Children Trust, Christine Rankin...

A few people on the roster for The Panel on National Radio have specified other panelists they really don't want to appear with.

    Guess who mine is?

  • Island Life: I'll cry if I want to,

My point, and I do have one, is that the expenditure is a one-off and the main beneficiary is a private concern. I have nothing against funding sport, or "entertainment infrastructure", but I have a big problem with letting individual organisations at the public tit for private gain.

Another element in the poker game currently underway is exactly how much control the trust board will cough up for the money. There will have to government-appointed seats on the board now. Not that I'm saying that won't get messy.
