  • Hard News: Chill out: it's a party,

Watching the Australia v Ireland match the other day I overheard a rather loud Aussie supporter comment about member of his own team "They should just get rid of that F***in' Black C*nt, he's Fu**in' useless"
Combine this comment with Australia's refugee stance and the way it treats its indigenous people and I believe you have the roots of that "lack of respect".
    Then there's those apples...

  • Field Theory: Rugby World Cup stories,

What, if any, safeguards were put in place when we dropped the Privy Council. Surely there were some, it seems totally wrong to me that a simple majority in Parliament is enough to overturn a Supreme Court ruling.
I, perhaps wrongly, thought that the Crown still had the upper hand and that the Crown was greater than Parliament and that the Governor General could ask the Supreme Court to revisit a decision and nothing more.
Even if I was totally wrong and misunderstand the position surely the retrospective part of this move is illegal in some way?.
If National ram this through then let's hope it is the last thing they do, ever.

  • Field Theory: Rugby World Cup stories,

Trust National to use the RWC smokescreen to push through this Attack on Democracy.
We don't seem to have a thread on this yet. It makes a farce of breaking away from the Privy Council... "Don't like what the highest court in the land says? change the decision, under urgency"

If I owned this, I’d be bringing it home. Just sayin’.

That is the sort of car that someone not bothered by inflation would admire.

  • Speaker: Party Central, structures and silos, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

What’s a “world class city” anyway? Moscow? Beijing? Mexico City? Lagos?

To me it is like the term 5 Star (as applied to hotels), meaning a standard expected by those not willing to spend any time with the "Locals" you could be anywhere in the World. It has the same bathrooms and fittings, the same Gideon Bible, the same mint on the pillow. In terms of Cities, the same high rise financial centre, the same McDonald's, the same "Gift Shops", the same rip-offs.
Not representative of the Country as a whole but a caricature in a corporate suit.

There is a single upside to Smiley John: Thoughts of "that nice Mr Key" might divert the wizened from voting for "That nice Mr Peters".

Dare I say it? Even that "Nice Mr Peters" has some good points.

I’d welcome more detail about their reasoning,

Ok, you get the details, I'll get the beers.
We can sort it all out at the "After Cup Debriefing", we could call that the ACD if you prefer. You can then tell us about your "Post Party Analysis" or PPA and we can tell you about the fun we had, our FUN.
I, myself, am looking forward to an Irish All Black final and don't give a damn about the probabilities.

  • Hard News: The Minister's Brain Has Exploded,

Anthony Hubbard has a good piece on Goff in today's Post.

"Being leader of the Labour Party is a huge privilege," he says, leaning back in the sunshine. "But being leader of the opposition is a pain in the arse."

especially the runaway near-try in the last few minutes.

Yes, what did happen there? I was all jumping up and down doing the woohoo thing and then it was all back to work with the ball juggling. Offside or some other confusing bit of rule play?.

How about "Heineken was the winner on the day" a Glass of two halves. (both empty but still tasting like horse pee)
I still haven't forgiven them for causing the closure of the Gluepot.
