  • Busytown: Holiday reading lust,

Get me a science fiction maybe? Or perhaps I'll find Sydney Bridge Upside Down so lauded in The Listener.

I'm in the middle of re-reading The Earthsea Quartet. The second drags a bit, but overall I am reminded of how compelling well-characterised and evocative prose can be. You start to sort of believe in magic.

It makes a stark contrast to that blue movie I finally saw the other night. I suspended my disbelief like a piñata from the ceiling, and Cameron duly smashed it into a million fluttery little 3D air anemone.

I found this interesting. The Soros Media "Empire" The Power of Philanthropy to Engineer Consent. It refers to Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent.

Oh crap, did I just mention George Soros and Noam Chomsky in the same post? I'm outta here...

It's a secret. But if you work it out, I'd appreciate it if you let me know.

  • Field Theory: The Sevens: Part 0,

Never mind beer, I just got assaulted by some blue-smeared dude who'd been huffing nitrous all afternoon.
    If you know Dickhead Smurf

Man, your 3D session of Avatar must have been more realistic than mine.

Yeah, heard the Chris Isaak too, but going chronologically, 1984 BB came first, I guess.

Actually, please ignore all of the above posts, because I'm going to 'buy the rights' and sue there arses off and retire in the Bahamas. Any objections?

  • Cracker: Wired for Sound,

Not wanting to make you any more jealous and upset, but (sorry) watched the Pixies Gouge Documentary last night, and OMG, if they generate a quarter of the visceral intensity of the 1988 footage in that, the Vector Arena is going to bust a valve. The Powerstation sounds better to me too, and I tried to get tickets, but clearly 45 seconds too late. Frankly, I think they make AC/DC look like innocent schoolboys ;-)

  • Hard News: Hell's Bells,

@Laneways. Yeah, I kind of blew a little piston when, having waited 30mins to get in to the beer crush, I was told I had to leave the queue and go line up for coupons (Ok, I don't read signs, or manuals), and then was told I need to buy $30 minimum. The two people I was with weren't drinking, and while I'm a generous person usually, having paid for the tickets, my generosity ran out. After I climbed over my indignation, and found a coupon buddy, we then lost an hour of our lives waiting for two beers.

They were saved by the bands, but this should really have been better.

On the 'sampling' front, this was too obvious to be ignored.

Took me 30minutes of digging in the recesses of my Alfies 1986 brain, but I got there in the end. The source song...

They credit Bronski Beat as an influence on their website, but do they have to pay royalties to use the riff live? Who knows...
