I can't get up in arms about Douglas
I can, because his whole political raison d'etre is privatise, cut government spending, blahdeblah. You'd think as a matter of principle he'd want to put his money where his mouth is.

This whole week has left me rather despairing. It seems as though as a country we've lost the ability to even pay lip service to our much-vaunted egalitarianism.

Things I have gathered from National this week:
1. We're going to sell off most of our strategic assets if the price is high enough.
2. We have no idea what we're talking about when it comes to emissions.
3. We are happy to release private information to the press if you disagree with us.
4. Disabled kids? Fuck 'em!
5. Privatising schools? Rad idea!
6. Night school classes and help for studying solo parents? Fuck 'em!
7. And finally: don't say anything negative about future plans in your industry, lest your employment prospects somehow become narrower.But woo woo cycleway!

I suppose it's a bit of a lesson for what happens when you go out there and put your story and put what you, you know, perceive to be for everyone the full information that sometimes they do.

3D = crap for people who wear glasses...
Fear not! The new giant-fly 3D glasses I tried out to see the U2 movie went over my Big Nerdlinger Tortoiseshells no sweat. (They don't look as cool as the old-school red and blue 3D glasses, admittedly, plus wearing two pairs of glasses at once is guaranteed to get you beaten up in the playground, but hey, it's dark. No one will know.)

Hooten, Bennett, and the rest of the right can barely disguise their contempt of beneficiaries.
I know the amount they're receiving isn't completely germane, but I do have to wonder why some people seem to think that $715 a week to feed, clothe and house a woman and three children is some horrifyingly large payout. Because it really isn't. What would they prefer, that those three children live in abject poverty so these smug pricks can feel better about 'their tax dollars'?
