  • Speaker: KICK IT! The Wee Fella,

If they beat the quarter finals for drama and quality, I'll be very impressed. Definitely excited though.

I know my grandmother didn't use to count infant deaths amongst children had in the family. And when they happened to be mentioned she'd say "but they were little," to reinforce that point.

Her neighbour couldn't remember if she had given birth to 14 or 15 children, of whom I think three reached adulthood.

Ops. Make that 17 year old. Don't know where that came from either.

Woodham's not an intellectual - except in the sense that she might pass for one to one of our newspaper editors - but she certainly is a cheerful intellectual.

I'd be grateful if we could stop short of bringing down a rape conviction on the basis of a thing we heard on the news.

It's obviously what Woodham was commenting on, though, no? In a pretty appalling level of abstraction. But I'm not assuming the guilt of anybody about anything - the allegations, hearsay, call it what you want, are simply the context of Woodham's piece.

Let alone the comatose consent of a twelve year old, eh? But it's good to know we can force ourselves on those weaker than us and count on the spirited defense of cheerful intellectuals.

Without worrying about what constitutes cheating exactly, surely the fact that a red-card offense typically carries a suspension, that is, an actual punishment beyond the game in progress, indicates that it is something that is discouraged and hence beyond the boundaries of the game.

Not really. You also get suspended for a game if you collect two yellow cards in the course of the competition. And while yellow cards serve as a deterrent against violent play, fouling in itself is hardly beyond the boundaries of the game - indeed, it's part of it.

"Alcoholic comas, unwanted sex and remorse are occupational hazards for trollops on the prowl. "

I couldn't have said it better had I received a frontal lobotomy myself.
