  • Field Theory: If he did it,

he was the second highest on the all-time rushing list and was inducted into the Pro-Football Hall of Fame in 1985.

    totally read that as indicted.

  • Legal Beagle: Threshold,

What happens if he were to leave parliament?

    ...

Presumably there would be an Epsom by-election. What would happen if ACT lost it?

Would they lose the other seats too? And what would happen if NZ First won it? Would they gain their full quota?

There would indeed be an Epsom by-election. The winner of it would become an MP. If they were a list MP (e.g. if Richard Worth ran and won), then their party would get another list MP.

If Winston Peters ran and won, he would return to Parliament, but no other NZ First member would.

  • Public Address Word of the Year 2008,

    infrastructure

It's the new answer to every question (previously "tax cuts").

I could check, but I'm pretty sure it's now __infa__structure.

  • Hard News: If you can't say something…,

As far as I'm aware, the only way Labour gets a complete recount is by the party secretary making seventy applications to the relevant District Courts to recount the party vote. Judicial recounts are not a trivial matter, and do you really think the Chief Electoral Officer and his staff are either incompetent or corrupt?

You're all missing the point :-)

A recount of the party vote in an electorate may be made of a District Court Judge at the request of a party secretary (accompanied by a deposit of $1500).

A recount of electorate votes in an electorate may be made of a District Court Judge at the request of a candidate (accompanied by a deposit of $1000).

A recount of every party vote may be made of the Chief District Court Judge at the request of a party secretary (accompanied by a deposit of $90000).

[and the point you're all missing]

Yesterday was the last day to do it!

  • Field Theory: One Girl, Tin Cup,

I'm going for someone in cricket and hockey, but I don't know who

A Hat-trick in cricket? Wouldn't we have heard of it? Or are we talking ancient history?

How about: women's U-17 soccer world cup, women's U-20 soccer world cup?

  • Field Theory: One Girl, Tin Cup,

__No doubt you're expecting somebody to make an observation about the title of this post__

Nope, but I was rather proud of it.

So it's not a play on the rhythmic similarity it has with Dean Martin's Memories are made of this?

    One boy, one girl

    Replaced with the decidedly similar:

    One girl, tin cup

He true love was golf sort of thing...

    Don't explain it. I suspect I don't want to know :-)

  • Hard News: Flu diversions,

Or, rather, someone who can verify the widely-held belief that if you're busy, your body will hold off getting sick until you ease up?

There was an episode of something (__Grey's Anatomy__?) where a person with massive internal injuries only had them go off (cardiac arrest etc.) when they were put in a CAT scan. His adrenalin had kept him going, but lying still for the scan turned that tap off.

Makes sense to me anyway ... though the overall effect of not letting your body fix itself at the earliest opportunity might not be great.

  • Speaker: Database Nation,

our new Government plans to introduce DNA testing of all suspects in all crimes involving imprisonable offences.

Not quite all suspects, but rather those arrested.

I would note, however, that with very very few exceptions (e.g. breach of a liquor ban) that you can pretty much only be arrested for imprisonable offences.

  • Legal Beagle: Threshold,

1.4 first divisor still kicks the rubbish out (1 seat to ACT, 1 to Labour), though I'd imagine the Kiwi party would have grabbed a enough votes to make the margin if folk thought they had a chance at getting in

I'd be pretty sure of reasonably major changes that way. Winston might even have gotten 5%, if he hadn't needed to. ALCP was also pretty close, and quite possibly would get an MP if people knew it wouldn't be a wasted vote.
