I actually quite like Billy Yule (Live at Max's Kansas City, plus Oh, Sweet Nuthin' and Lonesome Cowboy Bill on Loaded).
Speaking of which, can anybody point me to a digital copy of Squeeze? I know it's supposed to be pretty average, but I'm curious about it. Plus, I once saw it in a Palmerston North second hand record shop and decided to but Live 1969 instead. The right decision musically, but not the right decision as a Velvets geek.
(and seeing as you ask, they we $20 each, a fortune in 1992)

The Bridge to Terabithia was the first film to make me cry since, ooh, Call of the Wild (in human years, about 30!) Like you say, Richard, I was totally blindsided by the twist. It is such a wonderful film, done a great disservice by its marketing as a Weta special effects film, when the special effects are so subtly done and in keeping with the mood. Weta should be very proud.
I've just started my boys on Roald Dahl, mostly cos when you've read Flat Stanley a hundred times, you start cheering for the Sneak Thieves.

I remember Pavement had two drummers when they came out in 1994 (?). They still had their old geezer drummer, who was wandering the Powerstation before the gig started offering people bananas.

Punk rock drum solo...

And I believe it was Marcus Greil who said Levon Helm's drumming could bring you to tears (in a good way)

Moon the Loon gets my vote, not as the best drummer, but the biggest personality.
Ringo was one of those drummers who held the sound together - his style is so recognisable. Glen Matlock puts the Pistols sound down the Paul Cook, and I remember seeing both Strummer and Jones saying the Clash were held together by Topper Headon.
I rate Clem Burke as a great drummer, but he couldn't keep up with the Ramones!
I'd give my Ringo vote to Tomorrow Never Knows or to Rain.

Has anyone linked to The Onion yet? Sometimes in my rough perusal I miss the good stuff.
Excellent link Dinah, a three pointer that cross-pollinates the vocab discussion elsewhere:
Added Sherwood, "It's all about getting the factoids out in the open."

Yeah. How exactly does one do an unauthorised interview?

Farrar's column is on NBR Online, rather than in the newspaper itself.

Actually, a friend came up with a similar (slightly more radical) proposal:
Approx 110 players are selected each year into the 5 NZ Franchises. Of this110 players we select 60 elite players. The players are selected on the basis of being part of 2 equivalent yet mutually exclusive All Blacks squads. The first squad of 30 players play rugby for whatever elite competition is required (Super14, Iveco series, Tri Nations) in the period Feb-June inclusive. The second squad play elite competitions over July-Nov period (extended Super14, additional All Black tests/tours, end of season Europe tour).
