so why does it feel so sharp now?
Because they were in it until the very end. That's the downside of doing so well I suppose!
Seriously, though, I was mightily unimpressed by Herbert and his assistant jumping around the field after that 0-0 draw against Iraq one year ago - that was embarrassing. But they've come so far in twelve months and have so much to celebrate, it really is a fantastic achievement. Herbert for coach of the tournament.

South American flair will have a better chance of unlocking Nelsen's defence than the Europeans.
Mmhhh.... Paraguay managed what against Italy? One shot on goal? They didn't seem very flairey to me. They're solid and can counterattack well. They're also all but guaranteed to top the group with a draw. So what are they going to do? If they wait for the All Whites and the All Whites over-commit, it could be a massacre. I'll be very interested to see what the two coaches do - tactically it could be a very interesting game. I'm not sure the All Whites can play the possession/territory game though, so I wouldn't expect them to press too hard.

I don't find Viacom very appealing at all.

I've had a terrible Led Zeppelin earworm in my head all morning, and it's all @davidslack's fault:
There's a lady who's sure
They were nuts to tax gold.

And it wouldn't be so bad if the presumption of bias were applied to all parties in the discussion. You hardly ever see anyone point out that organic farmers have a financial interest in seeing GM banned.
And politicians, in riding the more emotional and unhelpful attitudes towards your particular branch of science. Although given that Fitzimmons gave an audience to Richard Gage, I'd be inclined to think that hers was a genuine inability to process evidence, as opposed to a more cynically calculated pretense. But the end result is very much the same.

I hit the wrong thread above, didn't I?

Think you could also argue that for all the sound and fury, the protests against the '81 Tour did not hasten the fall of apartheid by a single day, let alone stop The Tour.
Yet they made this country significantly more civil. Go figure, eh?

Giovanni, apparently
Okay, now I'm worried that what I wrote about breeding widely might have been construed as "yay, he philanders!" I just meant, you know, from a geographical standpoint. In that I couldn't go any further to breed without leaving the planet.
I'm making it worse, aren't I?

At that point I'll actually switch to watching horse-drawn buggy races.
