Just a wee bit, Mark. And sorry to disappoint, but Soul on a gaw-jus Sunday afternoon is the kind of place I'd confidently take a posse of maiden aunts for a nosh.
Amen to that, Craig. I like Soul, very much. Lovely if you sit on the wee verandah thingy. Very nice food, and solicitous service, I've always found. And on topic again, I'm over my angst. I wore a red tshirt to work today in honour of my Aunty Helen, and that cheered me up no end. I've come to the conclusion that Key doesn't worry me, but the old National (and in Douglas' case, Labour) guard still do. We shall see if he has enough stamina to stave off their somewhat rightist ideals. And I'm definitely wary of this Tolley person who's touted for the Education portfolio. I'm gladder than ever to be a member of NZEI.

And she doorknocked, I believe. My friend Kate voted for her solely because of that. Very pleasantly suprprised to find a candidate on her doorstep, she said.

Ah well. Off to find out what the good citizens of Mangere think of it all.

That was very interesting, Giovanni. What a mixed bag my little polling booth turned out to be......
-
How do you find out those figures, Giovanni?

well, for those of you who are a little upset about the result, consider that some of us are looking at our actual jobs disappearing.
not getting your favourite party in power is less of an issue...
I'm not a little upset, I'm angry. I'm angry less because Labour didn't get in, and more because National has significant numbers enough to do some pretty scary things. I don't necessarily know what those things are because when a party has been in opposition for 9 years, they don't always tell you about the scary things, just the things they think people may want to hear. Tax cuts? We all know that more money in peoples' pockets in one area leads to cuts in other areas. I'm not as politically savvy as some here, by any means. And I can't be doing with endless political analysis. It may be simplistic but the way I see it is simple. This is a country, not a business. We tried the business model before, and it just doesn't work. I'm bitter and angry and all those things, Craig, because I'm an idealogue. I work with children. I work with lots of children from lots of families. Some of those families are disenfranchised. None of them are rich, all of them are brown. And all of those children deserve to be thought about. And my fear is, when Key forms his government, that they won't be. If there had been any indication before the election, that he had any understanding of any of this, then I would feel better.

Surely that cheers you up just a little
Uh, no. There is very little that could cheer me up today.

I am so farking depressed, and can only reiterate what my comrades here have said..........
How can so many people be so wrong?
my thoughts exactly, steve.
Thank you Helen for all you have done for us.
and that, too. I wrote her an email this morning to thank her for doing so much for the education sector, and kindergarten teachers in particular. I also told her I wanted her to carry on being our great leader, but I guess that one wasn't to be.
Oh well. You takes the good with the bad. And that speech by Clark? AWESOME.
yes, tussock
they say people deserve to get the government they vote for - good people, what do you say?
YES
Unfortunately the good people lost tonight.Greed was the winner on the day.
and YES
I remember what National was like last time. I remember why Labour got in nine years ago. And we have to go through this charade again? I'm with the people who want to just go to sleep and miss the next three years.....
Oh, and well done to Mikaere who got a goodly number of votes. -
thanks sofie - I may, of course, have read the entire thing wrong......

Well, I voted and it was painless. Normally we go to a school hall just across the way (Maungawhau Primary if anyone is at all interested), but I just couldn't cope with all those huge generalisation warning bloody Epsom people who just happen to be in the Mt Roskill electorate and vote like they were in the Epsom electorate, so we went to a weeny scout hall just up the road instead. Very quiet, and, even though a poster on the wall said that scrutineers would be wearing different party rosettes just as an example of what they looked like, I found it very offputting that the two scrutineers in this particular place were wearing National thingies. Bah. All very quiet, and very sombre in timbre, and not many people around voting, but quickly done and dusted. You know, having read Jolisa's post, it could have done with some joie de vivre and cupcakes. And I also now have voter guilt because instead of voting for Phil Goff, at the last minute I went with Lisa Er (Green). Still, I like to think of it as a vote of confidence for Mikaere. Happy voting everyone.
