  • OnPoint: Transcription of new Rick Perry…, in reply to Sacha,

You're quite right, and with the magic of the edit function... Poof. So to speak.

  • OnPoint: Transcription of new Rick Perry…, in reply to James Bremner,

    Barry is a committed leftie

Only on Planet Tea Bag, dear… Then again, James, I guess we can squint past Gov. Romney’s record as a pretty moderate New England governor who made Obama look like a pussy when it came to Marxist healthcare.

  • Up Front: It's Not Sex, and It's Not Education, in reply to Nik C,

From the odious “Your Views” section: “I also tell her (daughter) that girls want love, boys want sex."

I had no idea it was a zero sum game. But if I was a teenage boy, I’d be feeling pretty epically matron-ised right now. Here’s a crazy idea: If you treat men like Animal Penis Brains please don’t be surprised when they live down to expectations. Teach them (and sorry for sounding like a Madonna lyric) to respect themselves, and others, physically and emotionally – with a healthy side of reality – the outcome may well be more agreeable.

This is where Obama has come unstuck; he promised so much only to find out that "no we can't" (at least not when he's outflanked by the Mad Hatter's Tea Party(

I love the way that when Obama grasps the whole separation of powers shtick, thinks bipartisanship actually means something (and gets told to fuck himself over and over) it's always his fault. I think his big mistake is making the assumption that the current Tea Bagged GOP actually gives a rodent's rectum about anything other than knee-capping him at every turn.

The way the snacks disappear is really quite remarkable.

Media students who’ve learned the cardinal rule: Blag all the food, liquor and non-nailed down swag NOW. Long and happy carrers in media see I do, my padiwan learners…. :)

  • Busytown: Sons for the Return Home, in reply to Deborah,

One woman from Guatemala (true!) said that she had arrived with an IELTS of 7.5 (that’s very high), to do a Masters, and she struggled to understand anything at all for the first three or four months.

Was that because of language problems or culture shock? I don't mean to sounds like some immigrant-basing arse but if I got dropped in the middle of Guatemala de la Asunción or Beijing I don't think I'd handle it at all well for a while either.

Hey, watch it there, young man!

I do see Australia as a foreign country. We share remarkably little of each other’s news, and it feels somewhat culturally different when I’m there.

Quite - the thing I find pleasurably disorientating about visiting Australia is that it's just similar enough not to go into full on culture shock but just weird enough to be interesting. Still, no matter where you are the Eurovision Song Contest is horrible but impossible to look away from...

Fark, this story, is exactly what we don’t need.

Um, yes and it goes without saying here that one incident of that nature is one too many. But after seeing Fire In Babylon, and in passing just how poisonous Aussie "sledging" both on the field and off could be, I frankly find the Aussie media playing Miss Manners more than a little hard to take.
