"There are some people who look at a glass and say it's half-empty. Others say it's half full. And some folks only see something else to throw on the floor and break."
Context is everything. The glass is half full/empty but of what?
If it's whiskey, thank you very much. If it's water, oh well.I believe you'll both find that the liquid storage medium is precisely twice as large as is required.
(nerd jokes. I've gottem)
re: DNA. If the sample is destroyed if there is no charge laid, I would be a lot more comfortable with it than if it was stored 'just in case'. If that's a route the powers that be want to take to a logical conclusion, why not take a sample from every new-born child, just in case?
Since 'cognitive dissonance' seems to be the phrase of the day, I for one find it rather odd that the same people who bleat about the worst excesses of the nanny state are (generally speaking) those who are most comfortable with some of it's more feral manifestations.

No one with dreads could be a bad man.

Politics has always involved a lot of horsetrading.
I swapped mine for some magic beans.
I have the best man
Rookie mistake. You're meant to leave with the groom.
And he can help you take care of your pony, too!
B'dm tish!

I booked a ticket for Leonard Cohen this morning
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
Thats how it goes
Everybody knowsCouldn't resist....

Oh, there's also one of those google-type sponsered link advertisments on the bottom of this page which says:
"John McCain's IQ = 138
Are you Smarter than the next President? Take the IQ Quiz Now!"
I am indeed LOLing. A great end to the week.

Is anyone else loving the steady drip-drip-drip of revelations about how totally frickin' off the wall Palin actually is?
Today's tasters are:
- Didn't know Africa was a continent rather than a country.
- Couldn't name the three countries in the NAFTA.
Wow.

I could cope with all the fussing and fighting on this thread, but not with the Sci-Fi. People, there is a big grown-up world out there, which is filled with much better stories, both real and imaginary, than you will find on those children's programmes you watch.
Tell me, do you have much trouble eating and drinking with that sneer on your face?

I predict 3 years of winter
Don't worry. Aslan will eventually be elected after a tense down-to-the-wire campaign against the incumbent White Witch.

I'll just drag this thread a little further off-topic...
the mercy killing of that baby in the market was the moment I really got something remarkable was happening
Interesting that you interpreted that as a 'mercy killing'. I read it more as having more of a teenage-type jealousy/wonder-what-happens-if-I-do-this/because-I-can component to it.
Which might fit in more neatly with what you were saying ealier about the cylons being teenagers. They don't necessarily think through their actions fully, they're not fully in control of their emotional responses, and they do stuff on impulse just to see what happens.

Based almost entirely on enthusiastic discussions on this very forum, I have recently begun watching Battlestar Galactica. I have just started season 2, and am enjoying it very much. If we could refrain from publishing spoilers in random PA threads, I would be grateful.
Me, too. Just watched the 3-ep pilot, and am waiting for some inconsiderate individual to bring the season 1 DVD's back to the video store. Season 2 is already there.
If I wasn't a repressed Englishman, I would, as I understand the saying to go, be squeeing.
