Hard News: Media Take: The selling of…, in reply to
Still, Joe Public has had the opinion that all politicians are liars for a long time. So no amount of being offended is ever going to be effective in stopping elections being won by good liars, right?
I don’t think Honesty is easily defined. The mechanism of easy definement is called Religion.
I go more for Bad Faith. One can act in bad faith without lying and one can act in good faith but not tell the truth

Hard News: Media Take: The selling of…, in reply to
I would hope that all the members of parliament respect one and other.
I don’t recall her saying this prior to the election.
Trust and respect – for the politician with some of the most offensive views.

One of the best statements made on election night was, David Parker I think – who pointed out that Jacinda was the only Prime Ministerial candidate who came out with her integrity intact.
That's hard to square with her suddenly claiming she trusts and respects Peters. And no back down on claiming migrants causing our problem. But then it is being said by Labour supporters that Labour and NZF have a lot in common.
-
The moral predicament for the Greens might not be deciding or not to go with National but whether they should pull the plug on Peters being in a centre Left govt.
-
That's very odd, Peters was genuinely angry. He's got both major parties paying homage to his amazing abilities and claiming how they were always his mate.
But he's all aggrieved and it doesn't look like an act.

I thought it telling Peters singled out Gower.
I'm not sure what Gower said was accurate or not but Peters doesn't want any hint of him being personally motivated.
It's all tiresome theatre from Peters but on occasion his rants speak a certain truth - about him and his priorities.

Speaker: The Government lost the election, in reply to
In a few weeks one of the parties will expressing more honest sentiments.
I know it's a necessary part of the game but Peters has expressed some of the most toxic views. And perhaps he just says them for effect but that's even worse.
-
I didn't realise how many senior National and Labour MPs trust and respect Peters. They could have at least told us before the election.
-
I think no one has lost the election til Peters lets us know what he decided - and that was probably some months ago.
I disagree National threw any parties under the bus - it's more small parties tend to come out worse off when linked to larger parties. There doesn't seem to be much appetite with voters for accepting smaller parties may have to compromise to get anything done.
Ardern's rejection of Turei and steadfast refusal to enter into an electoral accomodation with the Greens (when there were close to disappearing) is much closer to that. All parties have campaigned hard for the party vote irrespective of any impact on potential partners.
It's always going to be difficult I think for the smaller parties. If you take a risk like the Maori Party did then you might pay a hefty price in terms if your personal political career but also might think the risk worth taking rather than achieve less in policy.

Hard News: Where are all the polls at?, in reply to
The intricacies of Common Knowledge.
Everyone knows that everyone knows The Greens won't go with National.
Everyone knows that no one knows what Peters will do.
