I don't really understand what this odious person is on about - perhaps I don't know the right people? - and can only conclude that it is a good thing that people are coming to understand, after almost a full twenty years or so that the Internet has been a mode of communication between different peoples of this universe, that what you write online does not disappear into the ether. That the people you malign, whether you can see them or not, do exist. And that none of us post in a vacuum.

Pff, Jackie, people look at me funny when I dance in the supermarket too - but why else would they be playing music?
Heh. I sing along to the muzak, or whistle. I just hate that people get all po faced when you show any sort of joy in life. It makes me do whatever is annoying them even more. Went to a course a while ago, and my friend and I were laughing at something. This woman looked at me, specifically, like she'd seen something hideous, and it just made me laugh harder, while I was looking at her looking at me. Bloody joykilling bastards.

My guess is that it was due to the public statements of regret afterwards that seemed so devoid of any … regret.
That was part of it. And Sacha? I agree with everything you said, and the way you said it. My tongue is bloody with the biting. Sometimes, however, brick walls are just that. Ignoring is good. Really.

I'm very aware that this thread has carried an emotional charge that most don't.
Yes. I'm not quite sure why I was so enraged by this case. Tears pouring down face enraged, actually. And I've never been abused in a relationship. So I can only imagine how those amongst us who have survived such domestic arrangements must be feeling.

Imagine if a judge sentenced a violent criminal to one week of bad sleep. Or one week of being the subject of talkback.
Raybon Kan. The Man.

Here's my tip - for what it's worth. When walking along Takapuna Beach with dogs offleash, do not smile. Do not say good morning to other walkers. And above everything else, do not laugh with joy or anything approaching it. In all these ways, you will successfully fit into the Takapuna beach early morning walking crowd. Oh, and do have breakfast at the Takapuna Beach cafe. It's a very nice place, with very yummy food, and very attentive service.

"fuck me, this is a weird spell we're going through"?
No, you're not the only one to think that, Russell. People are increasingly fucked up, is my analysis of the world at the moment. I don't know if it's because people were always that way, and our increased access to more and more and more information is giving us a glimpse into peoples' fuckedupedness, or whether, in fact, shit is just more weird than it used to be.

Speaking of DVDs and things, does anyone know if The Bridge has been released on DVD? I missed seeing it at the festival last year, and was so disappointed.

I agree on the ass vs arse thing, Suze.
And David?
I wish there was some way to connect what I read with the people I mix with every day
Honey, I've read this entire thread and I don't even know what taxonomy means , let alone what poo has to do with some PhD students thesis or whatever. So fear not. We're not all high level intellectual brainy types. I'll tell you what does connect people here with people in the pub - we're all human, we all hurt, some of us are parents, some of are not.....we all suffer from the human condition. Read some of the more accessible threads. I agree that this one may have got a wee bit too esoteric for some, me included.

Vacation vs. holiday is actually a useful distinction, I guess. (e.g. Valentine's Day is a holiday, even though you don't get the day off.)
I think it's because we don't really celebrate those things in NZ. I know in the States that Halloween comes under the "holiday" umbrella, and Arbour Day, Presidents' Day etc. I guess that a holiday isn't a holiday unless you get the day off. Long weekend is what covers it here for public holidays, mostly, I think. For me, it's about retaining our own language. And although I accept that language, like culture, evolves, I like the uniqueness of our lexicon.
