Thanks, Damian. I needed a good sob, right about now. I like, and love, a lot of unanimaled people, but I can never really really understand them as much as I do kindred souls who have an animal or three in their lives. So enriching all that nonjudgemental love. We have a Toru and a Cleo
who are treated as members of the family. As they should be. -
It occurs to me that people would be a lot better off if, like me, they restricted their viewing of sports to Sports Cafe highlights of said Olympics. Mark whatshisface might be a bit of a dick, but I still enjoy Graeme Hill.

Thankyou Jen for your valuable input. I'm no expert but surely if Google is a noun, then the verb is googling?
I suppose that would imply a two-syllable "googling", which is not, I think, how most of us say it
oh, but I do....

Welcome to your blog on PA, Emma. I look forward to reading your perspective on things. And use your children. Go on. Think of it as early payback for their teenage years.

or a variety of reasons I don't like Nick Cave
No, I'm not a fan, either. Best live music by far would have to be at Mahina's tangi. Her songs being sung by Andrew Fagan, Shona Laing, Charlotte Yates et al - now that was special. Otherwise, I loved the Stones at Western Springs in the 90's, One Million Dollars were always a riot live, and on a more biased note, I loved Breaks Co-op live at St James.

I miss her. A lot.

The APRAs eh? Well, I am sincerely glad to see Phoenix Foundation in there. I love that song, alot. And I think big rewards are due these young men for the fine music they make. On a personal note, I was really expecting to see Mahinaarangi Tocker's name there. I don't know why. I just thought that after her death, it would be a lovely way for the music industry to say haere ra to a phenomenal songwriter, who, I might add, wrote shitloads of lyrics for a lot of people.

*'raw 'fish salad/ika ota/ kokoda
Oh yes, islander. Vey vey yummy. And I know it's not seafood, but it's my favourite food - Cook Island Mayonnaise.(pronounced minus). For those of you who don't know, it's potato salad with a punch. I do believe I could live on it.

Speaking as one who had a semi traditional wedding, I'm with you all the way on this one, David. I was never going to get married (less to do with weddings than I just hadn't met anyone who even resembled people you'd want to spend a goodly proportion of your life with), and then I met Ian. He proposed - even rang my father to ask for my hand etc - and so my sucking into the whole wedding vortex began. I didn't go into a frenzy but I did buy a bride magazine, and afterwards was completely appalled at myself. I sneaked a look at it, but really, a bride magazine? What was I thinking? My mother organised the whole shebang - I just had to supply a list of friends. It was at my parent's farm, I didn't wear a dress, we had a celebrant.....really, it was just a party with a 5 minute interruption for some legalities. it was lovely at the time. Now, I'm not so sure. I like being married, I have been so for 16 years, but I still in the back of my mind, wish that we'd run away somewhere. Maybe next time.

Once again, I find myself swimming somewhat against the tide (to coin a fishy type phrase). I don't really like fish. Anything that tastes of the sea isn't my idea of delicious - although I do love prawns, and crab, and shrimp, and crayfish. I do like fish and chips, and I love smoked salmon (the thin cut type, not the fillety one). Whitebait fritters - yes, I quite like them, and do enjoy a good taramasalata. But any sort of shellfish? No, thankyou!
