  • Hard News: Saturday Music: Lovely Day, in reply to Hebe,

    Do you have figs yet?

Not even close. A month or two yet.

I have figs; golfball-sized green figs. In the glasshouse.

Ah. I've never heard of glasshouse figs.

I have high hopes for them after last summer’s fig envy induced by PAS.

They don't keep, so either eat 'em fresh off the tree, or identify a a preserving day. My fig chutney -- recipe here – is bloody excellent.

The other champion recipe is barbecued figs. Halve the figs, push a nugget of goat cheese into each half, then wrap each half with a strip of pancetta (or, more realistically, streaky bacon) and cook them on the hot plate. Incredible.

But if you concentrate on exercise, there’ll be health benefits for most people, whether or not they lose any weight. Surely that’s preferable.

It's very difficult to lose weight through exercise alone.

But perhaps we could all go out and enjoy the sunshine today.

How about a debriefe then? Why did Katharine deserve to be bullied.

I don’t think she was being bullied, but the fact that she was being rounded on by everyone else was a factor in giving her a rest.

She was, however, being obsessive and insulting to others and would not take the hint when I suggested she ease up. It needed to stop.

This is a bit silly. Katharine's going to take a rest now.

I eat quite a lot of McDonalds

My objection to that is mainly value-for-money.
If only there were drive-through chippies. Or kebabs, etc.

Tend to agree. McDonald's would be an okay "sometimes" food if it weren't such terrible value for money. Frankly, I've been off it since I went for my once-every-few-months fillet o' fish from the Queen St McD's and it was just bloody awful.

That’s lovely. The author obviously loves sardines. I can’t imagine anything so poetic written about hot chips served in greasy paper.

There are loads of poems about chips. And even more about fish and chips.

I can't eat sardines because they are full of purines and I am prone to gout.

Also Katharine, give it a rest, eh?

I could watch this on a loop all day. Not normally a fan of Marshall but love how he just loses it at the end when Barrett crosses the line

Thanks! Kinda fun to hear the three different commentaries.

That’s fine, Gregan got to hear it live and in stereo at the end of the semi final, 2011.

Gregan was actually good value on World Cup Weekly along with Jeff Wilson and Joel Stransky during the tournament. It was the most watchable of a surfeit of shows.

The choice of venue sounds completely incongruous and slightly weird – perhaps there just wasn’t much in the way of ‘discreet’ venue hire.

The owner is Simon Warr, a New Zealander and former rugby player, old friends with McCaw.

Which explains why the club's private room is called the Koru Lounge.

It seems it's quite the celebrity haunt when it's open, which explains why the Daily Mail was waiting.

Imagine how good the Black Ferns could be if they had the pool of talent and resources that men’s rugby has.

It looks to me like being on the women's Sevens circuit is helping, actually. But

I didn't mean to sound so dismissive above, sorry. It's worth talking about. And it's past time there was a women on the NZRU board.
