Cracker: How Media Made me a Bad Person., in reply to
I did feel kinda bad that most of the responses ro my original tweets were “Ya boo, Herald sucks” though …
But... it IS sort of an awful paper in many respects. I mean, I'm not trying to be a dick. I haven't been corrupted by a career in media. ;) I just think it's generally pretty bad.

That was my first Laneway (since at every other one I have either been enormously pregnant or caring for a newborn) so I have no basis for comparison, but I didn't really have too many issues with the crowd. The only time I felt a little iffy was during the exodus from Haim, since they had such a large audience.

It is possible that I was too far back in the crowd to appreciate the clearly widely-liked Savages. It is also possible that I am a bit too much of a shallow pop-ho and they're just... not really my thing. Where are my easily digestible hooks? :)

Capture: Laneway 2014 + Lorde, in reply to
I *know*, that was really appalling. I think the sound for all three hiphop acts I saw was lacking. They were all doing their best but it was pretty muffled and it affected things quite a lot.
(I did like being in the "waiting for Kurt Vile" half of the crowd while Earl Sweatshirt was playing. So many solemn, concerned faces looking over at him! He even came over and said at one point: "Peace to the dad community. I respect y'all. Keep doing what you're doing." Ha.)

And speaking of up-for-it crowds, Haim's was pretty large. And enthusiastic. I wish I could have seen their set from somewhere other than 3/4 of the way back behind an eight foot tall dude, but that's the way of it for we shorties.

Hard News: Friday Music: Backwards and Forwards, in reply to
No, they were definitely down for the Aroha/Tamaki stages.
Really? The good, fun, non-concrete-bunker stages? (If you'll all just excuse me for a moment: WAAAAAAHHHHHH DAMON ALBARN YOU ARE A DOUCHE AND CLEARLY CALLED THIS OFF SO YOU COULD PROMOTE YOUR SOLO ALBUM AND I HAVE A GIANT SAD.)
OTOH, that slow-roasted pork muffaletta in Chow Town was the *business*.

I was actually pretty meh about the Arcade Fire for at least the first half of their set, but it wasn't their fault. I can count on the fingers of one hand the main stage acts that haven't left me a bit cold. I'm either too far away or, as a short person, unable to see a damn thing through the crowd. I wish I could see them in a much smaller, indoor venue.

Moz, your conditions for compulsory sterilisation are confusing to me. First it was for hitting your children for any other reason than immediate safety, then it was for beating a child to death. I'm sure you'll agree that there is rather a wide gulf between those two...?
-
I... think it's, uh, REALLY REALLY PROBLEMATIC, from a human rights perspective, to suggest forcible sterilisation for people who spank their children*. (I just didn't want to let that remark go by without comment, and it seemed to have.)
*not me. I am not a spanker, or pro-spanking. FWIW.
