Ah, the Comedy Festival. Love it, love it. I loved the Gala - I particularly liked Josie Long - very esoteric humour - and I also thought that Jason Cook was really funny in a very quiet sort of way. I have always loved Irene Pink. She did a gig for us at the Auckland Kindergarten Association Conference at the beginning of the year. Two people out of 300 odd walked out. Score! I would say.

My requitements are almost in complete opposition to yours, David. I don't like beer, so I don't care how good it is. And I don't do the whole sport thing, so natch to that too. I do, however, love a good pub, and I like good pub food. So many of our bars and pubs have become repositories for those dreadful bloody fruit machines - pokies is such an apt name. I like nothing better than friendly bar staff, nice background music - preferably of the instrumental jazz kind - and an ice cold rum and coke. A garden bar with ashtrays on the tables, and plenty of space to breathe. Now that's perfection. I used to frequent the old Birdcage in my mis-spent youth, and I swear that was the perfect pub. Nowadays, I wouldn't have the foggiest where you'd find a great pub, but I suspect that if the old Kiwi were still going, that would be primo.

Elegantly and eloquently said, Craig. And I am sorry for the loss of your sister. They say that time heals the pain, but sometimes the anger remains, and questions remain unanswered.

Do you know, it may not help how you feel right now. Nothing could make you feel better, right now. However, you just shared your beautiful sister with alot of people who will read that, and care that she lived. And that will help in the long run.

Andrew, that was a beautiful piece of writing, as was your blog about your sister. Condolences and large enveloping hugs.

My family lost my sister in law, Mahinaarangi Tocker, today. Sad, sad, sad loss to NZ music, and to us all. She is precious, and irreplaceable. One less good person in this cold world.

Well, I can top you all. Never heard of the buggers.
pretty sure I burnt you a copy onto a 78 at one stage auntie jackie.
that's scary - I'm Aunty Jackie to 16 people, and I'm pretty sure you aren't one of them.

Are you sure that Baby Bob couldn't be soothed by a bit of jazz? I defy anyone, including snippy babies, to resist a bit of Brubeck, or Getz....

Always thought it a shame that Jo Brand never teamed up with Jenny Eclair - have seen them both live and they would make a dynamite combo.
I so agree daleaway.
