yeah... but i've read you remark that you can't remember life without the internet. russell's mum, like mine, can well remember life without television.
yes, yes, yes. I have to say that I knew immediately that Russell was talking with generational mores in mind. Because my mother is hopeless. My dad discovered the Internet at 88, 6 months before he died, and he loved it. He browsed yachting and Formula One websites for hours on the laptop that my brothers' bought for him. As soon as he died, Mum wanted the computer out of the house. And it hasn't been allowed back in. I am routinely to be found haranguing her about at least learning how to email, so that she could stay in touch with family overseas. But no. She says she likes to write letters. So that's that. And anyway, she just asks me to email people, or download information, when she wants something. I won't stop trying, though.

Di, thankyou for your words. I am so sincerely sorry for what happened to your son. Words fail and are inadequate. Love and peace, eventually, to you and yours.

Sophie, all the positive energy in the universe to you, my love. So hard, so hard.

that's so sad - my deepest condolences to the people that loved him, and called him a friend.

I mean national as in the demographic sense of the word, rather than...........you know what I mean.

She openly acknowledged that many in the political media want a change of government, not because they are right-wing, not because they hate Clark, not because they are in love with Key, but - get this - just because they are bored.
I would suggest that we've had a few changes of government just because the national electorate was bored. So I guess one shouldn't blame the media if they use the same excuse. At least Harvey was honest about it.

Welcome back, Fiona, welcome back. Can I just ask when we are getting the next season of ANTM? And some Project Runway? I do hate having to stay away from the websites just because we're a couple of seasons behind on both those shows. And is anyone else finding the new season of Men In Trees just a little, I don't know, discombobulating? Storylines are getting a little thin, IMHO.

PS: I am getting concerned about degrees of separation and convergence in this community.
Ruh-roh
.
Are you talking about the six degrees of separation thing, Jason? I like that aspect of living in a small country. I know a couple of the people who post here (I'm even related to one, I think) and it just intrigues and delights me, really. I like when the Gracewoods post - what an extraordinary talented family, and how proud their parents must be. I like when Russells boy posts his videos - bit of a family thing. See, I love the personal. And this forum has enough of both political to read, and personal to engage with, to keep me a very happy PAS reader and contributer. -
Oh yes it does get harder, Russell. It's also the times that bands start, that I find hard. If they're supposed to be on at 8pm, they often start later, and I turn into a pumpkin after a certain time of night.

But somehow, I get told that it's a moral failing to not know the name of the latest big thing band. What's with that?
Sing it, sister. I have a dear friend, same age as me, who frequents the Kings Arms, and is right into all the latest rock music. I simply admire her for being able to withstand all that noise. A couple of years ago, I was at the NZ music awards and the Datsuns or D4 or one of those groups was playing. The seats were literally shaking with the decibel level. Highly uncomfortable, and not my thing at all. Like you say, Deborah, each to their own but don't judge people like us who don't "get" whatever new music is trendy etc. Just because a new group is the second coming doesn't mean I'm going to like them.
