  • Hard News: Stupidity and ignorance have…,

    reality

Now there's a much abused word. Some use it to describe the world in which we all live. Others use it to describe what is going on inside their head. It gives undeserved legitimacy to one of those.

I dont think stupid and ignorant will ever be considered virtues. And other world leaders have displayed these qualities before, remember The Decider.
But it is becoming a norm to display said qualities without shame. Oh well.

If I can steal a Jordan Peterson analogy,
These qualities have to live somewhere so they get boxed up with one's assumptions and that makes it OK, if there are a lot of people like that around who will follow another's lead.
Is that a slippery slope I see before them!

  • Up Front: What's the Big Idea?,

But we need great persuasive communicators.

No definitely NO. What we need is more people able to assess evidence themselves, and be able to reach a coherent conclusion. being persuaded by someone else to believe something just because that person is good at communicating can so often work against the evidence.
Its all our problem now, act like it matters.

  • Up Front: What's the Big Idea?, in reply to BenWilson,

That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying that even if Fairness is the number one question dividing Left and Right, it’s not a sufficiently strong reason for most people to vote the way they do.

Sounds to me like that is exactly what you are saying.
The numbers get to be meaningless after a while. The problem is people/ us/you/me/the fuckwit down the road/the megalomaniac leader.
And we still stubbornly refuse to see it, belittle anyone who dares point it out to us.
If we ever came close to resolving it, it was when various sects tried to unite us around their designated sky fairy. As messy as that was.
But its not an option anymore

  • Up Front: What's the Big Idea?, in reply to BenWilson,

It could even be the one question that maximally divides the population, the ideal question, the perfectly formed question.

Some people EH! wont get behind a good idea unless it benefits them directly.
The Right's favourite whipping cliche DAMN HIPPIES arent to blame for that.

Just in case no one has noticed. The right wing of the political spectrum is out of ideas that will help humanity. They can talk it up all they like, its smoke and mirrors.
United we stand, divided we're fucked.

bit of that campaigning in poetry first?

Yes big ideas expressed elegantly and simply, in a way that resonate's our rattled psyche's.
You want this from our leaders who now call themselves 'politicians' not lords, dukes and sirs?
    Don't we all!
I imagine some trusty underling scuttling along a vaulted corridor with the news.
"Milord, milord the peasants are revolting!"
Yep the message is misunderstood yet again.

    And so it goes...

    HAHA
And those who aren't on drugs aren't crazy?
One look around the world would dispel that myth.

unemployed kiwis are all lazy or on drugs

Just to turn it around all employed kiwis are one step away from being exploitative condescending psychopaths who dont give a fuck about anyone or anything but their comfort and self image. Sorta like Trump, who being a human, exhibits traits that are universal not in a good way.

And that is much more dangerous than being high and indolent for a while.

  • Speaker: The Brexlection,

“The cure for the evils of democracy is more democracy.”

That would require the politicians to give a shit about the welfare of voters, especially those at the bottom of the societal heap.

And the voting population to be informed, and with the ability to look past their own pocket.

And both appear to be non existent in 2017
